Weekly Focus
Student Focus
Virtue of the Month: Compassion
hul'qumi'num word of the week: la'lum'uthut It means: Be safe
Behaviour focus: Being safe at recess
Open Parachute Parent Resource of the Week
Open Parachute is a district mental wellness program being used in many classrooms. A wonderful addition to the program is that it has a parent portal that you can access anytime if you are struggling at home with specific issues. It gives families an opportunity to open up the conversation about mental health, at home, so that students know it is a safe place to share how they are feeling, provide them with useful tools, and provide an opportunity to connect with you.
I will be including a weekly link for families to take a look at, but please know that you can access any of the modules that you want. The topics I send will either align with our virtue, behaviour of the month, or issues that are coming up at school.
Tiger Pride & Gold Thumb Awards
Congratulations to Division 11 for receiving the Golden Thumb this week, and to Drei (absent) in Division 13 for the Principal's Tiger Pride award! A huge congratulations to all who also received a teacher recognition tiger pride ribbon this week.

Things You Need to Know
COPS Tour de Rock - September 28th, 2026
We are honoured to welcome the Tour de Rock cycling team to LIS this year on Monday, September 28th, around 10:55 a.m.!! They will spend some time in the gym with our students as we cheer them in and answer any student questions. Please help us with fundraising for this amazing event. Below is the donation link for this fundraiser which goes towards childhood cancer research. Please indicate in the donation line, your child's name and division because the class with the highest donations will be treated to a PIZZA PARTY!!
OPEN HOUSE - Thursday 5:00 - 6:00
Please join us between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. to visit your child's classroom and their teacher. This is a great opportunity to check out your child's learning environment, see what they have been working on, and meet the teacher. Please remember that this is not the time to ask how your child is doing as there will be many people around. For the sake of privacy and confidentiality, these more focussed conversations should be saved for the Parent/Teacher interviews happening during the week of October 19th - 22nd. We look forward to seeing you!
School Food Program
At LIS, we are proud to offer a snack and lunch program to support families who may need assistance. Our goal is to ensure that every student has access to food during the school day.
Recently, we have noticed an increase in the number of students who are either forgetting their lunches or looking for additional food throughout the day. While we are always happy to help when needed, we kindly ask families who are able to do so to pack sufficient food and a few extra healthy snacks for their children, especially as they grow and their appetites increase.
For students who have forgotten their lunch, we ask that they contact home so that a lunch can be brought to the school. This helps ensure that our support program remains available for families experiencing genuine need.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership in supporting all of our students.
Verification Forms & E-consents
We are still waiting for a significant amount of verification forms to be returned. Please return your child's verification form a.s.a.p. so that we have the most up-to-date information on hand. Make any changes necessary on the page, do all the checkmarks on the back, and sign the back. Once completed, please return them to the school as soon as possible. These forms hold critical information for safe day-to-day operations, so the sooner we have them back, the better.
Also, watch for and complete the email consent forms for the following things:
1. Media Consent
2. Technology Consent
3. Emergency Release Form
Please complete these as soon as possible so that we have your consent on record and your child's learning is not interrupted in any way. If you have lost or not received your verification form, please email info.li@sd68.bc.ca for another copy.
