Black and Orange Day

Tuesday, October 31st, will be Black and Orange Day at Boyden. Students and staff are encouraged to wear black and orange to school on Tuesday. We ask that students do not wear or bring Halloween costumes to school. Thank you!

Thank You!

Thank you to School Committee member Bill Buckley for sharing the History of Walpole and how the town government works with our grade 3 students. They learned so much!

♪Notes♪ from the Music Room

Kindergarten has been learning all about loud and soft sounds! Ask them about the book, Forte Comes to Town! They have also been able to use egg shakers, sand blocks, rhythm sticks, and boomwhackers!

Grade 1 has been continuing to learn rhythms and even had a rhythm race game! They also had the opportunity to use boomwhackers for a few play-along songs.

Grade 2 learned about the composer Edvard Greig and his music from Peer Gynt. I bet you have heard the songs they learned about Morning Mood and In the Hall of the Mountain King.

Third and fourth graders played an orff arrangement on xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, drums, woodblocks and the glockenspiels! Ask them if they can sing you the song :)

Fifth grade worked over the span of three music classes on a composing project. Once they finalized their projects they were all given a special “tool” to play their compositions!

Check out some photos and videos below of our 5th-grade classes.

TikTok: What Parents Need to Know - From the WPS Online Safety Hub

In the article “TikTok: What Parents Need to Know” the author, an online safety expert, takes a ‘deep dive’ into this popular social media platform. She talks about the minimum age requirement for users, how it is accessed, how it's used, the risks, the positives, and how you can make this app safer for your child. Within the article, the author also shares another link to a page written by TikTok which describes a 'limited app experience' for users (under the age of 13). The article is informative and worth checking out. Please visit the Online Safety Hub as it is a great resource that shares advice, tech tips as well as app & game reviews.

Grade 5 STEM Week Project

Last week fifth graders participated in a STEM Week Challenge in partnership with the Wade Institute for Science Education, the Lloyd Center for the Environment, and the Buttonwood Park Zoo to learn about engineering design, adaptations, and prosthetics.. Students worked over the course of the week to create a prosthetic for an injured animal that would fulfill the function of its adaptation. They sketched, built, and attached it to a stuffed animal. This project was a collaboration between the Grade 5 teachers, Mrs. Moses, the Media/STEM teacher, and Mrs. Carroll, the Digital Learning Coach. Here is a link to a slideshow of the project.
