The Doty Digest

February 2nd 2024
Principal's Corner
Greetings Doty Families!
Fortunately Miss Julie’s class has determined that jail is my office so I have been able to be out and about with the kids! Today the students in 3-6 had a rock, paper, scissors challenge for Mardi Gras beads. It was loads of fun. Maureen talked with the kids about integrity and sportsmanship and while a few kids begged me for beads in order to stay in the game, it largely went well. The best part is that Barb, our amazing custodian, won. The outpouring of happiness and celebration from the kids was beautiful to see. More than one student came through the lunch line talking about how much she deserved it because she’s the one who does the most work in the building. What a fabulous community we have here!
We are gearing up for the pie breakfast tomorrow. I’ve got my stretchy pants ready to go, I’ve been hearing about the pies coming in and boy oh boy, yum scrum.
We have Contemporary Dance of Montpelier coming in to do a demonstration for the kids in April. This is always popular with the kids and is a good example of where our silent auction money goes to for students.
Report cards will be being mailed home early next week. Please feel welcome to reach out to your student’s teacher with any questions you may have.
As always, thank you for sharing your students with us!
Gillian
Notes from the Nurse
Hello Doty Families. Last week, I asked if there is anybody interested in having a dental hygiene van visit school to provide your child dental services. I would like to hear if you may take advantage of this opportunity. This does not tie you in, but it will show me what kind of interest is out there. I can’t schedule something like this unless I see enough interest, and I have not yet received the numbers to schedule it. Please email me at lfaesy@u32.org with any questions or interest. Thank you.
We have several students out with a “tummy bug” or GI upset, and upper respiratory infections. Please encourage good hand washing, drink lots of fluids (mostly water), spend some time outside playing, and rest up for a full week. I look forward to seeing some sun peek out Monday. Take care. -Nurse Lydia

Pie in the Face
Join us on the 14th!
We have had so many students donate to the Pie in the Face contest that we have decided to do the finale at the Doty all school meeting on the 14th of February. At this meeting we will also conduct our annual Valentine exchange. We assign a "Valentine person" to each student and staff and hand make Valentines for each other. The exchange is extremely popular as we display the valentines for a week so everyone can see them (names are hidden).
This year we are inviting parents to come and watch the exchange which will end with the highly anticipated pie in the face!
If you wish to join us, we will be starting at 2:00 on the 14th in the gym.

Rock, Paper, Scissors
3rd - 6th graders participated in a Rock Paper Scissors Challenge today! Students and staff received Mardi Gras beads in the morning and challenged each other to battles throughout the day. Barb, our amazing custodian, was the champion! Students have proposed tweaks to the rules, and we might try another Rock Paper Scissors Challenge with new rules soon.
