Dear Lindblom students and families,

THANK YOU to our students, staff, families, and alumni for your overwhelming support during the ABC7 Chicago Friday Flyover competition. Your energy, school spirit, and commitment, helped Lindblom become the first Chicago Public School to win this competition! Also, THANK YOU to the students, staff, and parents who helped us execute an amazing day of Open House tours. Over 600 attendees visited our campus and your enthusiasm, preparation, and hospitality showcased the very best of LMSA.

Beyond our campus, across our city and nation, many are facing very real safety concerns and the impacts of inhumane rhetoric and widespread federal layoffs. These events affect our neighbors, our families, and even some within our own community. We must continue to exercise safety precautions and be supportive of one another. Despite uncertainty, one thing remains clear; we are capable of standing together, of supporting those in need, and of applying the knowledge and skills we gain here to help create a more just and compassionate society.

As a matter of fact, in times like these, we have to do our part to make sure our belief pillars aren’t just words on a wall; they are a call to action. They remind us that we have both the responsibility and the ability to care for one another and to act with empathy and understanding. Our teachers demonstrated caring, empathy, and understanding this past Friday as they greeted and engaged with families during arrival/morning entry.

Thank you for continuing to represent Lindblom with excellence, heart, and purpose. I am deeply proud to serve this extraordinary community.

Together we rise onward & upward,

Principal Banks

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Samira Rawls! Samira single-handedly labeled every book in Ms. Keene's classroom library by genre, which has made it a lot easier for students to find the books they are interested in during independent reading! She has also volunteered on more than one occasion to give feedback on student writing, which has been hugely helpful.

Congratulations to SVC! Members of SVC organized and hosted Lindblom's first Extracurricular Fair and what an amazing event it was! If you were not able to attend, no worries. SVC will create a catalog of all the wonderful clubs, organizations, and sports that are available at Lindblom with the goal of sharing them on the website.

Lindblom students attended Big White Fog, written by Theodore Ward, about an African American family living on the South Side of Chicago during the Great Depression. The family struggles with the systemic injustices of racial violence, economic hardship, and conflicting ideologies for the Black community, grappling with Garveyism, Communism, and the pursuit of the American Dream.

Alumni Spotlight

Arveal Drummer is a proud 1995 graduate of Lindblom Technical High School. While at Lindblom, he earned three varsity letters in football and served as captain of both the Frosh-Soph and Varsity teams. He was named All-City Second Team as a defensive back. Despite not participating in clubs or associations due to his fair share of disciplinary challenges, Arveal's experience shaped his resilience and drive for growth.

After high school, Arveal made the pivotal decision to hang up his football cleats and boxing gloves to focus on his future. He began his college journey at the University of Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Religious Studies in 2000. In true Lindblom fashion, he went on to excel both academically and professionally later earning an MBA in Global Management and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy.

Today, Arveal serves as Associate Vice President of Enrollment at Illinois Institute of Technology, where he leads with a passion for access, equity, and student success. As a first-generation college graduate, he understands the uncertainties that many students and families face in navigating higher education. That’s why he volunteers his time to help other first-generation students and their families navigate the admissions and financial aid process.

Arveal is married to his high school sweetheart, Tiffany, and together they’ve built a life on the South Side of Chicago, raising their three beautiful daughters. When he’s not in the office, you’ll likely find him reading, golfing, or mentoring the next generation of scholars and leaders.
