Vista Unified Is Preparing for Hurricane Hilary
It has been an exciting week as we celebrated the return of our students for the 2023-2024 school year. Our theme of “joy in the flow” was evident on every campus I visited.
As you are aware, we are anticipating heavy rains and winds over the weekend and into early next week due to Hurricane Hilary. While currently deemed a hurricane, the current weather forecast expects Hillary to begin weakening tomorrow reducing her to a tropical storm. Our teams are tracking the storm and preparing our campuses in the event our community experiences significant weather. Contingency plans for any flooding or leaks are being put into place for students’ return on Monday. In the event of lightning and strong winds at arrival or dismissal, schools will communicate plans to parents to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
There are steps all of us can take to prepare for emergency situations.
Sign up to receive emergency alerts for California
Sign up to receive local San Diego County Alerts
Stay informed by listening to radio or television news.
Ensure you have batteries or power back-up for your electronic devices
Make a family emergency plan
In the event of flooding, get to higher ground immediately.
Obey evacuation orders. Listen to the authorities if you are told to leave.
Avoid flood waters. Do not walk or drive through flooded areas as they may be deeper than they appear.
Be safe this weekend. As we weather the storm together, communication will continue to be shared with our school community.
Sincerely,
Matt Doyle, Ed.D.
