Grade 3 Visit to Fowler
Our third graders had the opportunity to visit Fowler this week to attend an assembly with the fourth graders. The assembly, Energy Academy: The Power Squad, was offered by the National Theater for Children. The students walked to Fowler with staff and were greeted by Principal Kinney and Assistant Principal Snyder. They had rave reviews when they returned about both the assembly and the opportunity to visit Fowler School.
Message from the School Nurse
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is a common viral illness in young children. It is usually mild, but it spreads easily in schools and childcare settings. It is spread through coughing, sneezing, saliva, or stool, and by touching contaminated toys, surfaces, or hands
Symptoms may include:
Fever
Sore throat
Small red spots or blisters on hands, feet, or inside the mouth
Fussiness, poor appetite, or trouble swallowing
What parents can do:
- Keep your child home if they have fever, mouth sores, or widespread blisters that cannot be covered by clothing
Encourage frequent hand washing.
Clean toys and household surfaces regularly.
Offer fluids to prevent dehydration
When can my child return to school?
When they are fever-free for 24 hours without medicine
When they feel well enough to join class activities
Have blisters that are dry AND can be covered by clothing
**Mouth and hand blisters that are draining should be healed prior to returning to school as they are contagious and cannot be covered.
Most children recover in about a week. Please call your healthcare provider if your child has a persistent high fever, trouble drinking fluids, or signs of dehydration. (Source: CDC.Gov)
Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Nurse Ria at: 978-897-8142

Teachers will be sharing sign-ups for conferences during the last two weeks of October. Our early release day on October 24, is dedicated to these meetings but teachers will post additional time slots throughout the two weeks depending on their availability. Please be sure to sign up for a time to discuss your child's start to the school year. If you would like translation services during your conference and your child's teacher has not already contacted you about setting this up, please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible.
Counselor's Corner
We are Hiring!
We are hiring a Preschool Teacher long-term substitute to work in collaboration with our preschool team. We anticipate this position will start the week of November 10 and will run through February 23. We are looking for someone who is certified to teach PK-2, has an early childhood certificate for daycare or preschool, or is working towards either licensure. The hours and length of position could be a good fit for someone who is retired or for someone who is just starting their career in early childhood education. Interested applicants should email Karen Lindquist at klindquist@maynard.k12.ma.us.
We are hiring Special Education Paraprofessionals to work with our educational team. In this role, applicants may support one to four students across school settings with academic skills, social skills, transitions, and school access. Special Education Paraprofessionals are part of a team of educators that include general education teachers, special education teachers, service providers, and other paraprofessionals. This is a great full-time opportunity for anyone in a graduate program looking to gain experience before moving into an educational role after graduation. Interested applicants should email Kate Murray at kmurray@maynard.k12.ma.us.
The Maynard Public Schools anticipates hiring Daily Substitutes for the 2025-2026 school year. This role provides flexibility. Daily Substitutes can determine which days, which grade-levels, and which of the three schools they would like to work in. For more information, please email Kate Murray, kmurray@maynard.k12.ma.us, or Colleen Andrade, candrade@maynard.k12.ma.us.
