BELOW IS IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE SWWC
WHAT IS THE SWWC?
The South & West Washtenaw Consortium (SWWC) is located within Saline High School and provides Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to 11th and 12th grade students enrolled in the Chelsea, Dexter, Lincoln, Manchester, Milan, and Saline school districts. Approximately 900 students participate in state-approved CTE programs as they continue to plan and prepare for college and career.
On behalf of the thirty-seven SWWC staff members, we welcome you to the new school year! Thank you for enrolling in one of our Career and Technical Education classes offered at Chelsea, Dexter, and Saline High School, as well as our off site locations specifically for Cosmetology and Building Trades. We are excited to have you in the consortium!
If you have any questions, please contact Kara Stemmer, the Director of the SWWC at 734.401.4371 or via email at stemmkar@salineschools.org. You may also reach out to Emily Koch, our SWWC Administrative Assistant at 734.401.4373 or koche@salineschools.org.
ATTENDANCE
We can’t stress enough how important having strong attendance is. We have a strict attendance policy of 7 absences per trimester or 10 per semester. Students will be placed on a contract if/when they meet the allotted amount of missed days. The SWWC Handbook contains our full Attendance Policy.
Notification of Absences: The following procedure must be followed when a student is absent.
The parent or guardian must email SWWCAttendance@salineschools.org AND call the student’s home school. The parent or guardian should also call the SWWC at 734.401.4283 to report an absence.
Absences include: Absences due to illness and/or hospitalization, Illness of other family members or death in the family, Court appointments, Medical or dental appointments, Absences due to school-related activities, where school or classes are missed. (This includes athletic events, band competitions, academic competitions, field trips, or other special school-approved events.) When absences of this nature occur, a student must have a written note from a parent or approval from a sponsor 48 hours prior to the event.
TRANSPORTATION
Most likely, your district is providing transportation to your student’s SWWC class. There are some classes that are “self-transport” and your student will drive to their SWWC class.
ALL SWWC students who are parking in Saline High School’s student parking lots MUST receive a parking permit.
There is no cost for this and it will be provided to your student upon completion of the SWWC Long-Term Driving Form.
ALL SWWC students who will self-transport to/from a program or regular activity related to their program (i.e.: Cadet teaching) in any building location other than their home high school, must complete the SWWC Long-Term Driving Form. Physical parking passes will only be issued for Saline High School, however, a form must be on file for any student that will be self-transporting.
If your student arrives late to class, they must enter through the main entrance of the building.
POWERSCHOOL
Your student will need to check their grade using Saline’s PowerSchool. This means your student needs to log in to Saline’s PowerSchool using their Saline-provided email and password. This confidential information is provided to your student by their SWWC teacher during the first week of school.
