Miners in the Middle
October 18, 2026

Principal's Message
Welcome Back, Miners! 💙🤍
I hope everyone enjoyed Fall Break and had an opportunity to relax and recharge! After midterm exams, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and a few shortened school weeks, we're looking forward to getting back into our regular routines at HMS.
Thank you to the families who joined us for Parent-Teacher Conferences last week. We appreciate you taking the time to connect with our teachers and support your student's success. And as always, if you weren't able to attend, please don't hesitate to reach out to your student's teachers anytime.
We have some exciting things happening this week, including the launch of our fall Amira Reading Challenge, an important Parent University opportunity for our 8th-grade families, and plenty of Miner Pride to celebrate from the Tulsa State Fair!
Let's have a great week, Miners!
— Mrs. Green, Principal
🎓 Parent University: 8th-Grade Parents, This Is for You Too!
Hartshorne High School is hosting a Parent University Night on Tuesday, October 20, and we especially encourage our 8th-grade parents and guardians to attend!
The evening will include important information to help families prepare for high school and beyond, including:
PreACT: What families need to know about this assessment, which our 8th graders will take this school year.
Oklahoma's Promise: Learn about this valuable college tuition scholarship program and how eligible students can apply beginning in 8th grade.
High School & Beyond: Additional information and resources to help families plan for their student's future.
Even though high school may still seem a little ways off, 8th grade is an important time to begin planning!
We hope our 8th-grade families will take advantage of this opportunity!
See the event information below for time and location.
📖 Fall Into Reading — Amira Reading Challenge!
We're kicking off our Fall Amira Reading Challenge at HMS!
This is a great opportunity for students to strengthen their reading skills, build confidence, and challenge themselves to grow as readers.
We'll be encouraging students to participate and make the most of their reading practice throughout the challenge.
Be sure to check out the details below, and let's see what our Miners can accomplish! 📚💙🤍
🎶 Congrats on a Successful Marching Season, Band!
Hartshorne High School Band received a rating of "Excellent" at the OSSAA Marching Contest, their final competition of the marching season!
Our band includes several of our 8th-grade Miners, and we're proud of the hard work and accomplishments of the entire group this season.
🐮 More results from the Tulsa State Fair!
We have some talented and hardworking Miners to celebrate!
Several of our HMS students recently represented Hartshorne at the Tulsa State Fair, and we're excited to share their accomplishments!
This activity requires dedication, responsibility, and countless hours of work well beyond the school day. We're proud of these students for the effort they've put into their projects and for representing Miner Nation so well.

Parents/Guardians: Stay connected to your student's progress!
Sylogist is an important tool for monitoring your student's grades and attendance throughout the school year. We strongly encourage every parent/guardian to have an active parent account and check it regularly.
If you do not have access to your account or need assistance logging in, please contact the Middle School office and we will be happy to help.
