Conversing Together

1. Psalm 121 speaks about our help coming from God. When have you experienced help in your life that felt as though it was coming from God, or coming from beyond yourself? (maybe through divine intervention, community, or another unexpected way, etc.)

2. John 3:16 centers God’s love for this world, not judgment. Has your understanding of God’s love changed over time? If so, in what way?

3. John 3:17 reminds us that God did not send the Son to condemn the world, but to save it. How can we, as a table and as a Church, better reflect that “non-condemning” love to our neighbors this week?

Being Good Neighbors: A Shared Commitment to Civic Life

At Calvary, our community is a beautiful tapestry of diverse backgrounds and political perspectives. As we strive to be both good neighbors and faithful citizens, we recognize that sharing our concerns and gratitude with our elected officials is a vital way to seek the flourishing of our world.

One of our members, Allen Hueffmeier, is offering free, volunteer help for members of the church who want to contact their U.S. Senators or Representative. After someone shares which official they want to write to and the issue they care about, he will draft a clear, respectful, print-ready letter with specific, realistic requests the office can act on. When appropriate, he can also point to relevant current legislation and include a brief summary and sources so the message is credible and easy to follow up on. To get started, contact Allen Hueffmeier at hueffmea@hotmail.com.

Moravian Women's Groups

Our Moravian Women groups offer a wonderful opportunity for fellowship each month now that we are into the fall months! We are currently exploring The Difficult Words of Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine, a thoughtful resource that invites us to wrestle honestly with Jesus’ challenging teachings. If you are interested in joining, we have two groups that meet in the first week of each month:

Afternoon Group: Wednesday, March 4 at 1:00 PM
Meets in person during the afternoon in the conference room!

Evening Group: Monday, March 2 at 7:30 PM – on Zoom

As reminder, there are several different ways to give your offerings here at Calvary.

  1. Bring your offering to Sunday worship.
  2. Mail your offering to the church office at 948 N. 21st Street, Allentown, PA 18104.
  3. Use your bank’s “BILL PAY” service. A one-time or recurring payment can be made by a bank on your behalf. Banks that offer this service typically cut a check and mail it to the church at no cost to you. Contact your bank for details. The bank usually asks for an account number. Just call Calvary office beforehand and Jess will supply an account number to you or just use your envelope number.
  4. Make an online payment through the Moravian Giving Portal – https://mmfa.info/giving-portal/. Go to this link, click on our church’s name and follow the instructions to make a one-time gift or a recurring monthly gift. Donations can be made by members and non-members via direct debit of a bank account or by credit card. All donation processing fees for portal gifts are now paid by the Moravian Ministries Foundation – your full donation will be received by your church.
