Book Fair and Art Walk Family Event
Thank you to everyone who attended our Art Walk and Book Fair event!
K-2 Spring Concert
We are excited to host a Spring concert for our Kindergarten, First, and Second graders (Third grade will be performing at the end of year celebration). The concert will be on Friday, May 23rd, at 9 AM in the Green Meadow cafeteria. It should last for about an hour, and we encourage you to stay the whole time to hear all the different grades. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email our music teacher, Natalie Wong at nwong@maynard.k12.ma.us.
Preschool Snack and Sing
Preschool families are invited to join their child's class for a snack and a special music class with Ms.Wong. The preschool team will communicate the details with families. Please note the schedule below.
Field Day
Our annual Field Day event organized by Randy Wood, our physical education teacher, will be held at Crowe Park on Tuesday, June 3, with a rain date of Thursday, June 5. The PTO will share a volunteer sign-up. Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will attend from 9-10:30 AM, and students in Grade 2 and Grade 3 will attend from 1:00 - 2:30 PM. Students will need to wear athletic attire (t-shirt and shorts), sneakers, and socks. We recommend a hat or sunglasses, and of course, a water bottle. All students should come to school wearing sunscreen that day.
Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony
Our traditional Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at 9:00 AM. We will be celebrating their time at Green Meadow and wishing them well at Fowler. Families are invited to attend. Students will be performing some of the musical pieces they have been working on this Spring. Grade 3 teachers will share more information as the date gets closer.
Grade 3 Clap Out
We will be recognizing our third grades on the last day with the traditional Grade 3 Clap Out. Third Graders will take a last lap around the building while students and staff clap and wish them well as they transition to Fowler. Families are invited to continue to Clap Out by lining up near the Library dismissal doors. If your child will be riding the bus that day we will still have them exit from this door before joining their bus line.

May Edition: Sun Safety
Dear Families,
As we enjoy more sunny days and outdoor activities, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of sun safety for all our students. Young children are especially vulnerable to sunburns, which can occur quickly and have lasting effects on their skin health.
To help protect your child during school hours, please consider the following:
1. Apply Sunscreen Before School:
Please apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to your child’s exposed skin every morning before school. This includes the face, neck, ears, arms, and any other uncovered areas. Sunscreen should be applied at least 15–30 minutes before sun exposure. *Please note that staff members are not allowed to apply sunscreen to students during the school day.
2. Dress for the Sun:
When possible, have your child wear light, breathable clothing that covers their shoulders, and a hat with a brim for additional sun protection. Sunglasses with UV protection are also a great idea.
3. Water Bottles and Shade:
We encourage students to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and seek shade during outdoor play and recess. Staff will monitor students and encourage breaks as needed.
Our school takes sun safety seriously, and we are committed to keeping all children healthy and comfortable during outdoor activities. Thank you for partnering with us to promote sun-smart habits that will benefit your child now and in the future.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact Green Meadow’s health office.
Warm Regards,
Nurse Ria
Playground Reminders
The weather is getting nicer and it is wonderful to see so many families using our playground to gather and get to know each other. A few quick reminders as you supervise your children:
* Please remind children to respect the playground space and the people who are using it. Students take the Green Meadow pledge everyday to be Kind, Safe, Learners. We remind students that this is important even when teachers are not watching.
* The children are well-versed in our playground rules during the school day. If your child is using equipment in an unsafe way they can always be reminded to follow "school playground rules."
* During the school day, students do not play in the woods. This rule is in place for supervision purposes and because we are back in tick season. If your child plays in the woods after school we recommend you check them for ticks before leaving.
* Please ask children to return any big sticks or rocks to the woods before leaving the playground so it is ready to go the next day.
* Students may not climb the trees on school property. Thank you for enforcing this expectation.
Thank you for your help! Please keep the outdoor play going during the last few weeks of school.
Dogs on School Campus
The Animal Control Officer has requested that we remind families that pets are not allowed on campus. Thank you in advance for respecting this policy.
Counselor's Corner
A busy Green Meadow school day is filled with academics, and by nature of the fact that we’re all learning together, it is also very social. Making social connections and having friends can be quite important to children, and for some, the process of forming friendships does not come easily. As parents, there are things you can do to support children who need a little help making friends. Knowing how children make friends can guide you in this process. Additional SEL resources can be found on the Green Meadow Social Emotional Learning Resources website.

Green Meadow Building Update
Over the April vacation we had radon mitigation systems installed in the four classrooms that had been consistently reading above 4 pCi/L.
We are working with an HVAC company, to complete the repairs of the univents that became inoperable a couple of years back during a cold spell. Given the age of the univents, there were some additional parts discovered and still need to be repaired. This is happening as soon as possible.
We also had a different air balancing company come and perform air balancing in Kindergarten and Pre-k classrooms . However, we are waiting to complete balancing in rooms that still need to have the univents repaired.
It is believed that by repairing the univents, balancing the air flow in areas affected by radon, and installing radon mitigation systems for rooms above 4 pCi/L, that should reduce the level of detectable radon in the air.
We are completing a 48-hour radon test this weekend, and should have results by early next week, which will be shared.
