Pink Week Thank You
For those who have been personally impacted by cancer, whether as a survivor, caregiver, or having lost someone dear, please know that we recognize that Pink Week can stir difficult emotions and memories. We are especially grateful for your and your student's courage and strength to participate in any capacity that feels comfortable.
As someone who was fortunate enough to be able to spend time with our students this week, including those putting on the week's events, please know that the impact of the week goes far beyond a dollar amount. I can't tell you how evident that was at last night's game. It really was a tremendous show of community support!
Thank you once again for showing up, for caring, and for making an effort to honor those affected by cancer. Together, I believe we made a difference this past week!
Advisory Period Update - Traveling and Testing
Students' Advisory Period has moved to after 2nd Hour. The new schedule is provided here. All students received an email from Mrs. Richards updating students on any specifics as it related to traveling to other classes during Advisory or testing. The contents of this message is included below so that you have access to the same information:
Hi BHS Students,
We hope that your first Advisory class went well this week! Beginning on Wednesday, September 24th, students will be able to start traveling during Advisory. Students may travel for the following reasons:
- academic support from another teacher
- to make-up a test or quiz in either a teacher's classroom or Media Center (must be pre-arranged by the teacher you are making up the test/quiz for
- for social/emotional/academic support with Counseling.
- you may NOT request to visit a teacher to be social with friends in that class.
Advisory Traveling Reminders
1. Meet with the teacher you want to visit for Advisory BEFORE Advisory to receive a PASS. This must occur NO LATER THAN TUESDAY!
- Keep in mind that the teacher you are visiting can only have so many students in their room, so the sooner the better.
- The teacher you are requesting to visit has the right to deny your request.
- Do NOT email your teacher on Advisory Day asking them to visit their class - this is last-minute and they may not see your email. You need to be proactive and plan accordingly!
2. On Advisory Day, EMAIL your Advisory teacher and CC your visiting teacher using the suggested email etiquette below when you arrive in that room:
Dear Mrs. (Advisory Teacher’s name),
I am visiting Mr. (Visiting Teacher’s name) room for Advisory today. Mr. (Visiting Teacher) can confirm that I am in his room for attendance. Thank you!
Sincerely,
(Student’s Name)
3. Sign-in with your visiting teacher’s class to document your visit.
Failure to follow these procedures may result in getting marked unexcused absent/skipping, an administratively assigned detention, and/or revoking your ability to travel in the future.
If you have any questions, please contact your Grade Level Principal.
-Mr. Evans, Mr. Grabowski, Mrs. Napuli, and Mrs. Richards
After School Tutoring - Up and Running Now!
National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. The message below was shared with all students:
National Honor Society is pleased to announce the return of After School Tutoring. Starting Tuesday, September 23rd, NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.
We would encourage you to reach out to your teacher if you are struggling in one or more classes. They are here to help! However, this is another great free resource for you. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Grade Level Principal.
Counseling Office Tutor List
In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.
The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.
Parent Teacher Conference Information - Dates and Sign Up Included
As in years past, there will be two days of parent teacher conferences this year, one of which will be in person and one of which will be virtual. As a reminder, virtual parent teacher conferences need to be held on site. Date and time information is provided below:

Teacher Appreciation Parent/Teacher Conference Dinner Sign Up - Donations Needed

The PTO will be hosting a dinner for BHS Staff during conferences on October 23, 2025. Please indicate in your sign up what type of soup and/or salad you will be bringing so we can avoid duplicates. A few vegetarian and gluten free options would be wonderful!

Please drop all non-perishable items in the HS Main Office by Wednesday, Oct. 22, so we can take inventory and get all the drinks refrigerated.

Career Chats (Previously Lunch N Learns)
With moving Advisory out of lunches, we changed the name, but the idea for Lunch N Learns is back, just with a new name! We will be hosting Career Chats this year during Advisory and could use your help. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in connecting our students with more information on potential career opportunities, we would love it if you could review the information below or share the following information with anyone who may be interested!
Brighton High School is looking for community partners!
We are seeking volunteer presenters to share their careers and experiences with students during our 2025-26 Career Pathways Presentations. Our "Career Chats", previously known as Lunch N Learns, are a great opportunity to inspire the next generation and help students explore future career options.
When: During Advisory on Wednesdays from 9:18-10:16 am (dates vary)
Where: Brighton High School
Who: Individuals from all career fields welcome!
If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Tanya Clark at clarkt@brightonk12.com for more details.
Together, we can help students connect their education to real-world opportunities!
Guardian Access - Google Classroom Updates 2025
We have some good news from Google in regards to Google Classroom Guardian Access.
Google's recent major update allows parents with active Guardian summaries to preview their student's Classwork page in a view-only mode, granting them access to assigned work, teacher-shared files, and other materials in addition to the previous email summaries of missing and upcoming assignments. This "Guardian Preview" feature, available for Google Workspace for Education Plus users, provides a more direct way for parents to engage with their child's learning by seeing what is on the Classwork page, although it does not grant access to other students' work or class communications.
What Guardians Can Now See:
Classwork Page Preview:
Guardians can now click through links in their email summaries to view the Classwork page for their student's classes.Assignments and Attachments:
They can see the details of assigned work and any files, documents, or recordings teachers have shared with the class.Student-Specific Information:
Access is limited to what has been shared with their specific student, preventing access to other students' information or the entire class stream.
As a guardian, you can get email summaries of your student’s work and progress in a class. Email summaries and preview capabilities within Classroom do not include grades. For grades, go to Parent Connect.
In email summaries, you can review:
Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.
Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
Class activities—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.
Before you begin:
You can get email summaries sent to any email address. However, to view or update email summary settings, you need a Google Account. For details, go to Create a Google Account.
Get email summaries:
To get email summaries of your student’s work, you must accept an email invitation from a teacher. You have 120 days to accept an invitation before it expires. You can unsubscribe from summaries or remove yourself as a guardian at any time.
Teacher Invites Guardian: Teachers invite parents to receive email summaries for their student. This is not automatic! Please email your student’s teachers to let them know you want guardian access.
In your email application, open your email invitation.
Click Accept.
When you accept an invitation, you and your student get an email confirmation.
Important things to note:
If you have had guardian access in the past, but turned off notifications, you will need to contact at least ONE of your students' teachers. They will remove your access, then add you back. Once they do, you will see ALL of your students' classwork again.
Once you have access, Guardians will find links within their regular email summaries to access the classwork pages.
Clicking these links provides a view-only version of the Classwork page, similar to how a student would see it.
Remember, you still need to access Parent Connect to see missing assignments and current grades.
We hope you find this new Google feature helpful! For more information and tech assistance, visit Google's help page linked HERE.

- Guest Applications are due to the Main Office by 2:30 pm on Friday, October 10th.

Digital Readiness Check and PSAT 11 Info - Includes General and BHS-specific Information
We know the school year just started, but the PSAT for our current Juniors is coming quick this year! The information included below are the basics for what you need to know for planning purposes:
- Juniors will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 8th this year in the morning. BHS-specific Information on this PSAT test for our Juniors can be found here.
- PSAT Testing will take place in the Aux Gym and Fieldhouse (just like this past year). All other students will attend class as they normally would.
- Prior to taking the PSAT, all Juniors are required to complete a Digital Readiness Check. This will be done during Advisory on Wednesday, October 1st. The schedule for when students will be completing their Digital Readiness Check in the Fieldhouse will be sent out as a standalone email this week.
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is structured similarly to the SAT and is a wonderful practice before the spring SAT. It has the same sections and timing, and measures the Reading and Writing and Math skills needed to succeed in college and career. Attached is the PSAT Student Guide with some practice tips and information on scholarships.
Standardized Testing Guidelines
Important Information Regarding Prohibited Devices: For test security, the following items are not allowed during testing or during breaks once an exam begins: Cell phones Smart watches Fitness bands Air pods or any other brand of wired or wireless headphones Any other wearable electronic device If brought into the room, these items must be powered off and will be stored with a proctor for the duration of the exam (unless there is a documented accommodation on file for medical purposes). If a student accesses any of the prohibited devices after the test begins, regardless of if they are inside or outside the testing room and even during breaks, the student will be dismissed from testing. An irregularity report will also be filed with the testing agency, the room’s entire scores could be cancelled, and the student’s device may be confiscated as a part of the test investigation. These guidelines also pertain to any national tests taken at BHS as part of our Saturday testing options available to our students.
October is Michigan College Month!
Michigan College Month is part of the American College Application Campaign, a national initiative with the goal to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college and for financial aid. Special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have otherwise seriously considered applying to college. Michigan College Month emphasizes the relationship between applying to and paying for college and helps break down some of the most complex and commonly cited barriers to attending college.
We will have different events going on in October in promotion of Michigan College Month, but also have some resources to share as well. In addition to the student resources already linked, additional resources on fee-free applications/application fee waivers are provided below:
AP Test Fee Payment Deadline - Friday, October 31st
This year, if students want to take their AP exam in May, they must register online in AP Classroom and pay for their AP exam in Parent Connect by October 31, 2025. Each exam is $100 unless a student is eligible for reduced fees due to demonstrated financial need. For students or families who feel they qualify for reduced fees, please email Jennifer Napuli (napulij@brightonk12.com), so she can assist with the process.

This year, the Seniors last full day of school will take place before Memorial Day. The Seniors last full day will be Friday, May 22nd. For those Seniors that have exams to take at the end of the year, the Senior Exam Schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, May 27th - 3rd and 4th Hour Exams
Thursday, May 28th - 1st and 2nd Hour Exams
This schedule for our Seniors to end the year should allow for a less chaotic day for them on Friday, full of a number of memorable events that they will enjoy.

Brighton Area Schools Student Wellness Information
As a part of the BAS Strategic Plan, we are always trying to find ways to maximize and support student growth. One of many ways we do this is through the Brighton Area Schools App. This app can be downloaded for free on iTunes and Google Play. It is loaded with resources for students and parents. In addition, consider using the "Your Best, Your Growth, Your Future" part of the app to submit a goal and receive 1:1 support and feedback to help you achieve it! The app will also allow you to receive notifications on what is happening throughout BAS and be updated on future events and information.
Weekly Wellness Tip from BAS
