Head Cheetah Message
Families,
Whether your family is jetting to a tropical destination, or enjoying time at home, I hope your vacation week is filled with rest, relaxation, and things that bring you joy. When we return, we will face a very full schedule, filled with Smarter Balanced Assessments in grade 3, Kindergarten screenings for our newest Cheetahs, grade level field trips, and MANY special events. It is such an exciting, but busy, time of year. Please continue to monitor the “Important Dates” section of the newsletter, and the Spring Events Calendar 2026 over the next several weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Joey & Andrea
Community “Shout Out”
Memorial School would like to thank Seth Kaplan, from Rokap Inc., for his generous donation of a beautiful new decal for our welcome sign. As I mentioned previously, this sign was long overdue for an upgrade; and the PTO worked with Seth and his team to produce a lovely improvement. Little did we know that Rokap waived the fees! Thank you Rokap, Inc. Memorial School is lucky to have such wonderful community partners!
Cheetahs In Action
Kindergarten Monsters
Earlier this year, Mrs. O’Dell-Piper’s 7th grade Family & Consumer Science Class sent our Kindergarteners several monster templates to design. Our young learners were encouraged to make their monster their own! Those designs were sent back to the 7th grade class, and they sewed them to life! This week, some of those 7th graders made a special delivery to Memorial School; and Mrs.Hoffman’s and Mr. Sullivan’s classes got to meet their little monsters! We were all so amazed at the time, energy, and precision executed by the middle school students. The last two Kindergarten classes (Clark and Snyder) will begin this project shortly. By the end of the school year, each kindergarten student will have a new stuffed friend to take home, courtesy of our talented 7th grade partners. Thank you, Mrs. O’Dell-Piper for facilitating this awesome project.
Grade 3 In-House Field “Trip”
Grade 3 students participated in a special in-house program with the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History, called On The Move: Migration to Connecticut. Through hands-on activities, the presentation introduced students to a variety of 20th century stories about moving to Connecticut. Students broke into teams to examine artifacts from “immigration trunks” in order to uncover different family stories about what it was like to move here. This program was a perfect companion to Grade 3’s current module in Wit & Wisdom - A New Home.
Cheetah Pride Assembly
Today we gathered for another Cheetah Pride Assembly, where we reviewed all of the work we did related to perseverance throughout the month of March, and introduced our next skill – IMAGINATION!
A Final Update On Samantha
Mountain Dairy wants to thank the Memorial School community for getting to know our adopted calf, Samantha, this year. Our calf is turning out to be a beautiful young heifer! One day, when she joins the milking herd, we might eat yogurt or enjoy cheese on our pizza that is made from
her milk!
PAWSitive Office Referrals
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.

Related Arts IS RAD
Hi Cheetah families!
Throughout March and the first part of April, all grade levels participated in our March Madness: Tournament of Books! Excitement is building as we get closer to the championship!
In April we celebrated School Library Month. Memorial readers had a great time participating in our book themed guessing game all month long. Book title riddles were set up in the library and in the main lobby for readers to test their knowledge.
See below for grade level classroom expectations
PreK students are enjoying a variety of read alouds and songs with the themes of dogs and cats; and dragons during the month of April.
Kindergarten is finishing a lesson around April’s theme “imagination”. Learners had fun using their imaginations to create a variety of drawings out of ordinary shapes after reading the book, What to do with a Box by Jane Yolen. After break we also used non-fiction text to learn about trees. I am sure you saw all our great looking fact trees coming home! Additionally, students have been showing a lot of imagination designing with our pixel blocks (Bloxels).
First grade students showed a lot of imaginations participating in a 12 circle challenge after reading the book, Let’s Go for a Drive by Mo Willems. After break we will be starting our first chapter book, Roscoe Riley Rules #1, always a 1st grade favorite!
Second graders are reviewing library skills and practicing call numbers and are reviewing some digital citizenship skills with the Google game, Interland. After break we will be starting our second chapter book of the year, The Sword in the Tree.
Third graders are reviewing library skills and practicing call numbers and are reviewing some digital citizenship skills with a game called Band Runner. After April break we will be starting our second chapter book of the year, The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Coaches Corner
We hope you’re looking forward to a relaxing and restful April break. The Math Learning Center website (https://mathathome.mathlearningcenter.org/) offers many exciting and engaging activities, games and practice pages for mathematicians at home. All of these directly align to content and routines utilized in the classroom. Once on the website, choose your grade level and have ‘sum’ fun with math over vacation.
Notes From the Nurses Office
Stay at Home Guidelines:
Memorial School understands that deciding when a child or family member is too sick
to go to school or work can be a difficult decision. When trying to decide, use the guidelines
below and seek the advice of your health care provider. Anyone with the following symptoms should not attend school.
Symptoms can vary, but symptoms may include:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fever equal to or above 100.4 degrees
- Chills
- Body aches
- Sore throat
- Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
If students or family members experience any of the above symptoms, please stay home and
contact your health care provider for further instructions. Sending sick children to school is not in
the best interest of the child or their classmates. Children should not be given any medications
such as: Tylenol, Motrin or Advil prior to school to reduce fever. Any child who has vomited or had diarrhea and/or a fever within 24 hours should not be sent to school.

Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
