Week of August 17, 2026 - August 21, 2026

A Learner-Centered & Excellence Driven Community

MTPS Families,

August is bringing a growing sense of excitement and enthusiasm across MTPS. With each passing week, our schools are becoming increasingly vibrant with energy and purpose, creating a wonderful sense of anticipation as we look ahead to warmly welcoming our amazing students/staff for the upcoming academic year.

Throughout the district, we are completing final preparations for 2026-2027, which will undoubtedly feature promise, opportunity, and possibility. Beginning August 27th, our remarkable educators will engage in professional learning designed to strengthen instruction, foster meaningful collaboration around student needs, and thoughtfully arrange classrooms and offices for the year ahead. This essential work reflects what we value most - a steadfast commitment to ensuring that every student is supported, challenged, and inspired to thrive.

The weeks ahead will also bring many of the moments that make the beginning of a school year so incredibly special. Orientations, welcome events, and other activities will provide students with opportunities to become familiar with their buildings, reconnect with friends, meet members of their learning communities, and build the confidence that is absolutely essential to their success. For our students, these experiences are more than simply a first step; they are an integral part of creating a powerful sense of belonging and establishing the foundation from which they can truly shine.

As we ready to open our doors, our focus remains firmly centered on our students. We want every learner to enter 2026-2027 feeling valued, comfortable, and confident in their ability to flourish. Our dedication to academic excellence is reinforced by an equally strong emphasis on relationships and by our belief that every student has the potential to make substantial contributions to our school community.

These foundational experiences will drive consistent growth, cultivate a deep sense of belonging, and support the realization of our shared K-12 theme: Elevate Every Learner.

As always, it is a privilege to serve our wonderful district. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead alongside such a devoted community of educators, staff, students, and families. Together, we look forward to a new year filled with learning, growth, connection, and, of course, achievement.

Sincerely,

Kevin G. Cullen

Interim Superintendent
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, & Special Education
