News & Notes From the Superintendent's Office September 2026
We're Off and Running!
We are already nearly four weeks into the 2026-2027 school year! Our hallways and classrooms are once again filled with the energy that makes SRC such a special place. Students and staff have settled into routines, activities are underway, and there is a great deal to be excited about as we look ahead. Thank you to our families and community for the many ways you support our students and schools. We are grateful to have you alongside us and we look forward to a great year of learning, growing, and celebrating all things Huskies!
A New School Year at SRC
It has been a busy and exciting start to the school year! After spending these first few weeks getting to know and work with staff, attending activities, and getting to know the district, I can tell you I am very glad to be here! I have appreciated the warm welcome I’ve received from the SRC community.
For those I haven’t met yet, I grew up in Davenport, Nebraska,
and small schools and small communities are very much a part of who I am. I have spent my career in Nebraska public education as a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent. I still consider myself a teacher—my classroom has simply gotten a little bigger!
I am also the proud mom of three grown children, two of whom followed me into education, and a daughter who is a physical therapist. My favorite title, however, may be Grandma to Declan, who is beginning second grade this year. Seeing school through a grandma’s eyes gives me yet another reminder of the trust families place in us when they send their children through our doors each day.
I came to SRC ready to work. This year, we will begin developing a strategic plan that helps define
where we want our district to go and how we will get there. We’ll continue strengthening professional learning for our staff, look for opportunities to grow our Career and Technical Education programs and community partnerships, and keep preparing our students for college, careers, military service, and life beyond SRC. Most importantly, I want our decisions to remain centered on what is best for kids.
I told our staff at the beginning of the year that every school year gives us a fresh opportunity. We
can’t change yesterday, but we have complete control over how we move forward. I’m looking
forward to working alongside our Board of Education, staff, families, students, and community as we do just that.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be a Husky this year. Let’s make it a great one!

2026-2027 School District Budget
The 2026-2027 Budget has been sent to print. In the local paper, you will notice the 2026-2027 Budget Summary and Tax Request forms. The hearings and approval of the Budget will take place at the Regular Board Meeting on September 16th, at the school in Room 402, 7:00PM. The proposed tax rate for the year is $.55, .4704 cents for operating the General Fund and .0030 cents into the Special Building Fund. The proposed bond fund tax rate is .0797. For the 2025-2026 Budget year we were operating at $.57, .4913 cents for operating the General Fund, and .0050 cents into the Special Building Fund. The bond fund tax rate was .0836. Our property tax request for 2026-2027 is $71,158 more than last year. The Board of Education continues to have conversations about our district's current and future needs, including facilities, programs, and the resources necessary to support our students and staff. These discussions are part of our ongoing effort to plan responsibly, prioritize needs, and remain thoughtful stewards of taxpayer dollars.
Building the Future of Shelby-Rising City Public Schools
This year, Shelby-Rising City Public Schools is beginning a districtwide strategic planning process in partnership with ESU 7. This work will help us take a thoughtful look at where we are today, where we want to go, and the priorities that will guide us moving forward. The process will include gathering feedback from students, staff, parents, community members, business owners, Board members, and alumni, reviewing district data and needs, revisiting our mission, vision, and core values, and ultimately developing clear strategic priorities, goals, and action steps. Most importantly, this will not be a plan developed by just a few people—it will be shaped by the voices of our entire school community. There will be several opportunities in the months ahead to participate, and we hope you will join the conversation as we help shape the future of SRC together.
Strategic planning and Continuous Improvement work hand in hand. Strategic planning helps us determine where we want to go; our Continuous Improvement process helps us get there. The priorities identified through strategic planning will help guide our CIP goals, action steps, professional learning, and ongoing review of student and district data. Together, they create one aligned roadmap for moving SRC forward.
Looking Ahead
There's plenty more to come! In the months ahead, I'll continue using this space to share updates from across the district, highlight the work happening behind the scenes, and keep you connected to decisions and conversations that shape SRC. I also hope to give you a closer look at the people, programs, and progress that make our schools special. I look forward to sharing more of the SRC story with you as the year unfolds. Until next time - Go Huskies!
