Message from the Principal, Dr. Sterling H. Seemans
Bulldog Community,
It seems like just yesterday we were inviting students into the building for their first day of the 2026-2027 school year. Now, we only have two weeks left in marking period 1! The last two weeks of this marking period will bring a considerable amount of distractions. Athletic teams are wrapping up their fall season in a final push for playoff spots, seniors are being recognized at their finals home games, our homecoming football game and dance are coming up, and Halloween is right around the corner.
The last two weeks are a sprint to the finish line from an academic perspective. There will be major assignments and tests in the next two weeks in each class. While the distractions are well intended and fun, we need to remain focused on raising grades and preparing to end marking period 1 successfully. Parents, I implore you to have a conversation with your child about their grades. With summatives looming in the horizon it is important that our students know we are watching and want to know how they do. One summative assignment can truly sway a final grade for better or for worse. So as our students’ attention is drawn to other things, it is all of our responsibility to keep them focused on what is really important.
All The Best,
Dr. Sterling H. Seemans
Principal

Parent-Teacher Conferences at BHS
Every Fall we conduct parent-teacher conferences. These conferences are primarily intended to meet with families of students who are demonstrating areas of struggle academically. With the limited time we have available to conduct in-person conferences, it will be important that we focus on our “at-risk” students. We define “at-risk” as a student who has a 65 or below in one or more classes. With only a couple of weeks left in the marking period, we want to make sure we start off the school year strong and with a good head start. Administrators, counselors, and teachers will begin reaching out to families of students who we believe fall within this category of “at-risk”.
Our model for parent-teacher conferences will be slightly different from what has historically been done at Brandywine High School. We are going to implement a “drop-in” model where parents can stop by at a time that is convenient for them during a two day window. There will be no need to schedule an appointment or have to navigate multiple links. We want to break down barriers for families to make it convenient for them to attend.
The first window will be after school on Thursday, October 22 from 3pm to 7pm. The second window of time will be from 8am to 11am on Friday, October 23. As a reminder, schools are closed on Friday, October 23 for students, but are open for conferences. Teachers will be clustered in three main areas so parents don’t have to navigate the entire building. Parents will just need to locate their child’s teachers in one of these main areas and sit down to discuss concerns and work collaboratively on next steps to help their child succeed. Below are a couple of points of emphasis:
- Meetings with teachers will be limited to 10 minutes, particularly if other parents are waiting
- If an administrator, counselor, or teacher has not reached out via a phone call and/or email to encourage you attend the conferences, then a meeting is not necessary for your child as they are most likely succeeding in their classes
- If you cannot make either conference window, please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a meeting either in person or virtually. You can find BHS’s staff directory HERE
- We will have members of our Student Support Services team (Special Education Coordinators, School Counselors, School Psychologist, Social Worker, School Nurse) team available during conferences as well
Although these conferences are intended for our students who are considered at-risk, we will not turn away any family who decides to attend. Our teachers are eager to support all students and families and want to see everyone succeed at Brandywine High School. Families of students who are not considered at-risk are encouraged to reach out to teachers via email with any questions or who may request an update.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to a member of your child’s support team. I have included that information of who to contact below.
Your child’s support team is as follows:

Apprenticeship Program Information
DTCC Workforce Learning and Degree Program Sessions

Important: Students MUST sign up through Scoir for the sessions they wish to attend. Students should select the dates and times that work best for their schedules.
Scheduling Guidelines
Seniors may not sign up for sessions that conflict with a graduation-required course or a course they are not currently passing.
Exceptions will be made for students taking the ASVAB or attending the West Chester University Student Services session.
Seniors on a reduced schedule may stay beyond their scheduled dismissal time with permission from Ms. Hullman.
Students must message their teacher through Schoology or email them in advance if they will miss class to participate in a Launch Your Future Week session.
We are excited to help our seniors make progress toward their next steps, whether that means college, career training, an apprenticeship, military service, or entering the workforce.
Please encourage your senior to check Scoir and sign up for the opportunities that will help them launch their future!

Planning For Your Future Newsletter
The Brandywine School District now has a monthly newsletter to keep families informed about what they can do to support their students as they plan for their future after high school.
BSD helps students to go to college, join the military, complete a training program/trade school, or get a job following high school. We want students to learn about their options and choose the path that is best for them.
PSATs On Wednesday October 21
Our 11th grade students will take the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 21. We want to share what the test is, why it matters, and how you can help your student arrive ready.
The PSAT/NMSQT is a digital assessment of reading, writing, and math skills. It gives students practice with the types of questions they will see on the SAT, and their results can help them identify strengths and areas to focus on as they prepare. For eligible 11th graders, it is also the qualifying test for consideration in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Students will test at school in their classes. The test itself takes a little over 2 hours, with additional time for instructions and breaks. After scores are released, students and families can use the results to guide SAT preparation.
Please help your student fully charge their school Chromebook on Tuesday night before they take the PSATs next Wednesday. Below is a quick list of what to bring and what not to bring on the day of the PSATs:
What to Bring: Fully charged BSD-issued Chromebook with charger, wear layers, snacks/clear drinks
Optional: pencil/pen, a scientific or graphing calculator
What NOT to Bring: Personal electronic devices (including phones, earbuds, headphones, smartwatches, etc.), books, or notes
A good night’s sleep, breakfast, and arriving at school on time will help students feel prepared.
We will share any additional testing-day details with students at school. If your student has a question about their Chromebook or testing arrangements, please contact our 11th grade assistant principal, Mrs. Tabron (jahsha.tabron@bsd.k12.de.us) before test day.
Thank you for helping our students start the day ready to do their best!

Update Cell Phone Policy
With the marking period ending, it is a good time to remind students and families of our cell phone policy. Please see our policy below:
Brandywine High School's Updated Cell Phone Policy
As we prepare for the 2026-2027 school year, Brandywine High School is implementing our updated cell phone expectations to create an environment where students can stay engaged, minimize distractions, and maximize learning.
Our goal isn't to punish students—it's to help them succeed by ensuring classrooms remain focused on instruction while still allowing students to access their phones during appropriate times.
📱 Students may access their phones:
✅ Before & After School
✅ During Class Transitions
✅ During Lunch
🚫 During Instructional Time:
• Phones must be turned off or silenced.
• Phones may be stored in a teacher-designated location.
• Phones may not be accessed during class unless directed by staff.
Progressive Consequences:
📌 1st Offense: Phone taken for the day & parent/guardian contacted.
📌 2nd Offense: Phone taken for the day & parent conference.
📌 3rd Offense: Student will receive a cell phone pouch and be required to secure their phone each morning for a minimum of one marking period.
Thank you to our students and families for partnering with us as we work to create classrooms where everyone can learn, participate, and thrive.
Focused on Learning. Respectful of Instruction. Ready for Success.

Advertise on Bulldogssports.com!
Brandywine High School Athletics is offering local businesses the opportunity to advertise on our athletics website, bulldogssports.com, during the 2026–2027 school year.
Our website is regularly visited by students, families, staff, alumni, and community members looking for team schedules, rosters, scores, results, and photos. For $500, a business advertisement will rotate on the main page throughout the school year and can link directly to the business’s website or a promotional coupon page.
If you own a business or know of a local business that may be interested in advertising and supporting Brandywine Athletics, please share the attached sponsorship form with them. This is a great way for businesses to promote their services while supporting our student-athletes and athletic programs.
Completed forms, payments, and advertisements can be submitted to me. Ads should be sent as a JPG file to darren.schulke@bsd.k12.de.us.
Thank you for helping us spread the word and for your continued support of Brandywine High School Athletics!

Counseling Corner
Throughout the year, the College & Career Center (C3) will offer visits from various colleges, trade schools, workforce, apprenticeships, military branches, and other programs. These visits are open to all students and sign-ups are in Scoir on the calendar. Students can show their teacher their sign-up as confirmation and their pass to attend. Stop by the C3 during your lunch if you need help with signing up.
Panorama Survey At BHS
Thank you for being our partners as we work together to educate and support your children.
As we enter another year of participating in the Panorama Survey, we continue to prioritize developing social-emotional learning skills as an important goal for our school district. We will ask students in Grades 6–12 to reflect on their mindsets, learning approaches, and school experiences through an online survey completed at school. The survey should take approximately 20–30 minutes.
The survey has two parts and asks students to reflect on the following areas:
- Part 1: Sense of Belonging, Expectations, and Classroom Learning Strategies
- Part 2: Mental Health, Diversity and Inclusion, and Cultural Awareness and Action
We are asking all students to participate. Their responses will provide valuable insight into their experiences and help us identify ways to improve as a district. Panorama safeguards student privacy and keeps individual responses confidential.
The administration schedule and parent/guardian opt-out deadlines are:
- Grade 9: October 12–16
Opt-out deadline: October 5 - Grade10: November 9–13
Opt-out deadline: November 2 - Grades 11 and 12: November 16–20
Opt-out deadline: November 9 - Makeup administration: November 30–December 4
Opt-out deadline: November 23
If you do not want your child to participate, or if you have additional questions, please contact Mrs. Adrienne Stansbury at adrienne.stansbury@bsd.k12.de.us by the deadline providing your child’s name and grade level. Students who are absent during their scheduled survey window may participate during the makeup period. The survey questions are available for families to preview on our website:www.brandywineschools.org/panorama.
Toys for Tots
Hall Sweeps at BHS
Brandywine High School conducts hall sweeps each day at:
- 7:30 AM
- 9:05 AM
- 12:50 PM
Students should be inside their assigned classroom by these times and prepared for learning.
Moving forward, students identified during a hall sweep will progress through the following consequences:
- First Offense: Documented Warning
- Second Offense: Lunch Detention
- Third Offense: After-School Detention
- Fourth Offense: In-School Suspension (ISS)
- Continued Offenses: Out-of-School Suspension (OSS)
The purpose of our hall sweeps is not simply to issue consequences. Our goal is to ensure that students are in class, on time, and ready to learn. Every minute of instructional time matters, and consistent punctuality helps students start each class successfully.
A special reminder for families of 10th-grade students enrolled in Driver Education: Being late to Driver Education can count against the student's attendance requirements for the course. Students are only permitted to miss two class periods, making it especially important that they arrive to class on time.
Please take a moment to speak with your student about the importance of arriving to class before the bell. We appreciate your partnership in helping us establish strong routines and expectations for a successful school year.
