๐ Weekly Highlights
๐ Reading is Golden: A Look Back at Read Across America Week
Last week, Roosevelt School dove into the magic of books as we celebrated Read Across America Week. Our theme, "Reading is Golden," came to life through a variety of engaging activities designed to honor the joy of reading and help students discover new worlds through stories. Throughout the week, the school also hosted guest readers and held themed dress-down days that kept the energy high
A special thank you goes to Mrs. Carver & Mrs. D. Gallagher for their hard work in coordinating such a "golden" week for our young readers!
Our Read Across America celebration was made even more special by the many familiar faces who stopped by to share their love of reading with our students. We were honored to host a wonderful group of Admin and Community Readers, including local leaders and district administrators, who visited our classrooms to read their favorite stories aloud.
These guest readers didn't just read books; they sparked meaningful conversations and showed our students that reading is a lifelong adventure valued by the entire community. The energy in the building was electric as students welcomed these special guests, making the week a truly collaborative and memorable experience for everyone involved!
A major highlight was the RAA Slumber Party held at the Manville Public Library on March 3rd. Students and families arrived in their favorite pajamas with sleeping bags and pillows in tow, enjoying a cozy evening of reading together, games, and activities. A special Thank you to Ms. Landau, the Manville library, Roosevelt Staff and MHS student volunteers, who all made this event possible!
Creativity in Action: G&T Students Compete in Odyssey of the Mind
On Saturday, March 7th, a group of our G&T students traveled to Hillsborough Middle School to participate in the Odyssey of the Mind Tournament. Our teams worked hard, and it was incredible to see their creative solutions come to life!
Competing against schools from across the region, our students showcased their skills in spontaneous problem-solving and presented their long-term performance projects. They demonstrated teamwork, quick thinking, and "out-of-the-box" creativity. We are proud of how well they represented Roosevelt School and the Manville community.
A special thank you to Ms. Adina Hope, our G&T teacher, for her dedication and guidance in preparing the students for this challenge, and to the parents who supported our teams throughout this journey!
๐ Counselor's Corner
โจ March Counseling Focus: Trustworthiness & Positive Affirmations
This month, Roosevelt students are learning about trustworthiness and the power of positive affirmations during their counseling lessons.
- 3rd graders are creating a Chain of Trust to explore how trust connects us.
- 4th graders are building Trustworthy Friendship Kits to understand what makes a reliable friend.
Through these activities, students will discuss:
โ๏ธ What it means to trust someone
โ๏ธ When itโs okay to share a secret (especially when safety is a concern)
โ๏ธ How positive thinking strengthens friendships
โ๏ธ Choosing a positive affirmation to encourage self-confidence
๐ก Conversation Starters for Home:
- Ask your child what they like about themselves and which affirmation they chose.
- Talk about the difference between tattling and telling (reporting concerns for safety).
- Discuss ways they can build trust with friends, teachers, and family members.
Encouraging these conversations at home will help reinforce the values of trust and positivity in their daily lives! ๐
