MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. MELISSA RICE, 1ST GRADE TEACHER AT WHITNEY ELEMENTARY

Mrs. Melissa Rice is starting her 6th year in our District. Mrs. Rice has taught both 1st and 4th grades at Whitney Elementary. She earned her undergraduate degree from Kent State University and her graduate degree from Ursuline College. Mrs. Rice is also a parent of four children that are in Strongsville City Schools.

“The best part of teaching first grade is watching my students grow and become independent learners and fluent readers. They mature a tremendous amount in one year and learn different ways to demonstrate their understanding. I also am a firm believer in building positive relationships and having a family atmosphere in my classroom. I love helping my students navigate not only through academics, but also through their daily lives whether it be managing difficult situations, social emotional learning, or just wanting to have someone to share a fun story with and talk to. It is important to me to build a trusting and respectful relationship with each and every one of my students! We work through challenges together, laugh, motivate each other and work together to show PRIDE every day. My students inspire me every day to want to grow, learn and be a better teacher than I was the day before!”

“I am so grateful to be a part of the Whitney family! All of the staff at Whitney are very welcoming, supportive and positive. I have an amazing team that collaborates well together and an entire staff who is willing to help and share ideas, materials, and experiences. It also brightens my days when I can see my previous students in the halls and they stop to say hi or share one of their accomplishments with me.”

Thank you Mrs. Rice for building a positive learning environment, which leads to fantastic growth and development in our first grade students! #ModelMustang

They are also looking for organizations in the community that are willing to partner with the preschool in meaningful ways.
