A Note From the Principal A Note From the Principal

It's been an amazing start to the year! Our first full week and then some has been full of smiles, practicing routines, and getting to know the building. We are truly so proud of our students for getting into the groover of the new school year so quickly!!

As we move into September we'll be getting our beginning of the school year assessments completed and then move into our regular content instruction later in the month. You can expect a monthly newsletter from your child's classroom teacher sharing the content focus and highlighting any grade-level events as well as a monthly SIS Newsletter full of building-wide events and community information from me.

As a reminder, please remember that if you are dropping your child off or picking your child up at SIS to use the 5th Street circle drive. The back entrance is reserved for bus drop off and pick up and staff parking. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure student safety!

Yours in Education,

Mrs. Holtz

Welcome (back) to the SIS Library! It was great to see everyone this past week! 4th and 5th graders were able to check out books this week, and after 3rd grade gets to know the library next week, they will have their turn! Over the next few weeks, we will spend some time digging into how the library is organized so we can find our favorite books. Just a few things to keep in mind as we look forward to a great year:

Circulation

  • Students can check out up to two books at a time for a two-week time period.
  • Books can be renewed for an additional two weeks if no one has placed the book on hold.
  • Overdue notices will be given to students once a month to take home.

Lost or Damaged Books

  • Lose a book? Did your new puppy take a bite? Did a baby get ahold of some markers? No worries! Just contact the Media Center, and we will let you know what to do next. Generally, there is a $15 replacement fee per book, or a replacement copy can be purchased from a bookseller of your choice.

If you have any questions about the SIS Library, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can access our library website here. The best way to contact me is through email: msutton@solon.k12.ia.us

October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month and we want to show our love for one of our own, Ms. Alli Reinsmoen. In partnership with our SIS Alpha Club, we will be raising money to support Rett Syndrome Research. Alpha Club will be selling bracelets for a small fee with all funds going to support research for Rett Syndrome. More details will be forthcoming, so stay tuned!

In addition to selling bracelets, we will also plan to wear our Alli shirts on Friday, October 23rd. Mark your calendars now so we can show our love and support for Alli!

High Five Friday! High Five Friday!

SIS loves having our Solon Football team stop by on Friday mornings to give high fives! It makes a great start to the day and an even better end to the week! Thanks, Spartans!
