Patriotic Day Program

Congratulations to these amazing 4th grade students who sang at Patriotic Day last night! Their beautiful voices captured the hearts of all who were in attendance. The students received a standing ovation from the audience. Thank you to Mrs. Winters and the other elementary choir teachers across Farmington who helped to prepare them for this big day. They made our community very proud!

New iPads

Thank you to all of our families who have completed the iPad agreement for the 25-26 school year. The new A16 iPads have been delivered to K-5 classrooms, with our youngest grade levels just starting to phase them in. As many of our teachers have already communicated, the school iPads will only be sent home if there is a school assignment that requires iPad use. Student devices in grades K-3 will remain at school (unless there is a unique situation that warrants otherwise) while students in grades 4 and 5 will bring the device home much more frequently. If you have specific questions about iPad use at home, please reach out to your child’s teacher for more specifics. For our grade levels bringing iPads home regularly, please read the information below about the design of the new iPad cases.

iPad Cases

Please DO NOT REMOVE the iPad from the case

- the adapter at the bottom of the case is inserted directly into the iPad. If it is not properly removed, it can break off into the iPad
- if there is a charging issue at home, please notify the teacher. The teacher will then reach out to our district tech department

iPad Accessory Repair/Replacement Information

The iPad protection plan states: “The iPad Protection Plan does not cover lost iPads, intentional damage –OR– stolen, lost or damaged charging cables, power adapter charging “bricks,” or cases.

Cost for replacement of iPad accessories:

· Apple USB-C charging cable: $19.00

· Apple USB Power Adapter: $19.00

· iPad STM Dux Ox Case: $42.00

Dress for the Weather!

The cold weather is right around the corner, so please...

Make sure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor activities and recess every day. We believe that students should have time to play outside whenever they can. Our policy is that students will go outside to play at recess unless the temperature or wind-chill is below zero. Please send your child dressed for the weather each day - even if you think it may be an “inside recess” day. The weather can change rapidly so we want to make sure students are prepared at all times.

October Students of the Month October Students of the Month

Assessment Information for Families Assessment Information for Families

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between all those standardized assessments?

Teachers and staff use data from assessments to help understand each student’s learning needs, monitor their growth, and ensure that our instruction aligns with district and state expectations. Below is an overview of the assessments your student may take this year.

  • FastBridge universal screening provides a quick check of each student’s reading and math skills three times per year. These results help educators identify students who may need extra support or enrichment and monitor growth over time to ensure all students are on track for success.

  • Diagnostic assessments provide a deeper look at a student’s strengths and needs in specific subject areas, helping educators adjust instruction more precisely.

  • State assessments measure student progress toward meeting Minnesota’s academic standards and provide information on student learning to help the district and school evaluate and improve instruction.

  • Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) in reading (grades 3–5), math (grades 3–5), and science (grade 5) measure how well students are mastering state standards in each subject area.

  • WIDA ACCESS (students with English Learner status only) measures progress in English language development across listening, speaking, reading, and writing of students identified as English Learners. Results help guide language support services and determine when a student has reached sufficient proficiency to exit English Learner support services.

Parents received information regarding their child’s screeners during conferences. Students will take FastBridge screeners two more times this year. We will continue to monitor student academic progress and communicate with you. We invite you to review the district’s assessment calendar here.

Attendance Tip!

Getting to school on time is just as important as being at school. Research shows that continued tardiness leads to poor attendance. Many of the most important parts of a student's day happen within the first 15 minutes. This is often when they have a time to socialize with their peers, orient themselves for the day, take care of necessary business, and connect with their teacher before the day starts. Never underestimate the power of the first 15 minutes of school!

End of Day Routine

Please make sure your child's teacher has an accurate, up-to-date plan for your child's dismissal at the end of the day.

When changes are needed, please communicate those changes with your child's teacher prior to the start of the school day. We cannot always guarantee teachers will see emails during the work day (as it depends on the activities they have planned with the students).

For EMERGENCY CHANGES, please communicate with the teacher and call the front office no later than 2pm. Changes to end of day routines are difficult for students and teachers. If at all possible please change YOUR routine instead of your students routine.
