The Wait is Over: The Book Vending Machine is Here!
We are thrilled to announce that our brand-new Book Vending Machine officially arrived today! This exciting addition to our school is a celebration of our students' hard work and their love for reading.
This project was made possible entirely through the incredible success of our PTO’s Boosterthon fundraiser. Thanks to your generous donations and our students' high-energy participation, we were able to fully fund this goal and bring the joy of "shopping" for books to our hallways.
5Essentials Survey-Parents & Students
Students in grades 4-12 will have the opportunity to take the 5Essentials Survey. This survey gives us feedback in five areas:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
In addition to the student survey, there is also a parent survey. The parent survey window is available now. To take the survey, visit survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois and select the parent survey. If we have 20% or more parents complete the survey, we receive a supplemental report regarding the feedback from the survey.
Please see this letter from the assessment office for more information on the 5Essentials survey. If you do not want your 4th or 5th grader to participate in the survey, please reach out directly to Kristy McKnight at kristina.mcknight@d303.org.

Chromebook Expectation Review for Grades 3-5
This week we reviewed school chromebook expectations with students in 3rd-5th grade. We were recently made aware of several Google Documents/Slideshows that have been circulating among students in the intermediate grades. The documents includes links to games that are unauthorized to be on student chromebooks. It's reported that the links allow students to bypass school chromebook security and download unauthorized games.
Below are the key points that we discussed with students and I have attached the presentation below:
- School chromebooks are to be used as a learning tool
- There are dangers (ex: chromebook viruses) and consequences to misusing school chromebooks
- We asked students to delete any of these documents that may have been shared with them
We ask that you have a conversation with your student(s) about chromebook expectations and continue to monitor their chromebook usage. Thank you for your support.

CUSD 303 AT Identification
Parents will be notified by email by Monday, March 9, if their 3rd-5th grade student has been identified for AT math, Accelerated math (6th grade only), or AT ELA. Families have the opportunity to appeal their child’s placement decision. Families can appeal for AT/Accelerated/Infinity placement by completing this form by May 1, 2026. Recommending a student for further review will not guarantee their placement, but it will prompt a comprehensive review that may/may not include classroom performance reviews and additional testing. More Information about AT pathways is available on the D303 website. Please contact tina.king@d303.org with additional questions.

Storm Science Assembly
Thanks to the PTO, we are welcoming Storm Science Weather Programs for an assembly on March 9th. We will host a primary session and an intermediate session. Students will learn about the science behind storms, including how tornadoes, lighting, and hail form. Additionally, they learn about storm safety. The culminating demonstration is the creation of a cumulonimbus cloud, paired with the explanation on how these clouds form. Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring such an engaging assembly. We look forward to learning more about the weather!
