One Family, One Destiny
Can you believe we are already wrapping up three weeks of the second nine weeks? Time is moving quickly, and so are our students!
This week's message is a simple but powerful reminder: Success doesn't always happen on the first try. What matters is that we keep going!
Throughout the school year, our students have been learning, growing, making mistakes, overcoming challenges, and discovering what they are capable of accomplishing.
During our first nine weeks, our teachers celebrated so many student successes. They shared stories of students becoming more independent, showing academic growth, working harder, following routines and expectations, and gaining the confidence to ask for help. These are all accomplishments worth celebrating! But growth doesn't stop when we accomplish something. And it certainly doesn't stop when something doesn't go as planned.
Students, here's my challenge to you:
Struggling with a class? Ask for help, practice, and try again.
Not happy with your grades? Make a plan, complete your work, and take action NOW.
Having difficulty with attendance or tardies? Make being at school and on time a priority.
Made a poor choice? Learn from it and make a better one tomorrow.
Already doing well? Keep challenging yourself! There is always room to grow.
Families, your encouragement makes a difference. Celebrate your teen's progress, even the small victories. Ask what they are learning, what challenges they are facing, and what they are doing to improve. Remind them that effort, consistency, and perseverance are habits that will help them far beyond middle school. One of the greatest lessons we can teach our teens is that success isn't about getting everything right the first time. It's about having the courage to keep learning, adjusting, and trying.
As we continue through Quarter 2, remember that every day is another opportunity to improve.
Did it work yet?
If not, learn from it, make an adjustment, and keep going.
If it did, celebrate your success, set a new goal, and keep going!
💙 Quarter 2: let's get it! 💙

Early Release- November 3rd- Election Day
As in years past, Ysleta ISD will host public polling stations at several campuses and Central Office on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
With strong early voting activity being seen in El Paso, Ysleta ISD has designated Tuesday, Nov. 3, as an Early Release Day for students and schools, with Central Office also closing early. This adjustment will help the district manage anticipated Election Day traffic, minimize disruptions to campus and district operations, and facilitate public access to polling locations at Ysleta ISD facilities.

Patriot's Pen
Patriot's Pen
Each year, more than 800,600 students in sixth through eighth grades enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen® annual youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1 million in local and national awards. Each first place VFW Department (state) winner receives a minimum of $500 at the national level, and the national first place winner wins $5,000!
The essay contest encourages young minds to examine America’s history, along with their own experiences in modern American society, by drafting a 300- to 400-word essay, expressing their views based on a patriotic theme chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. Students interested in participating must submit their essay prepared on this year's theme, with a completed 2026-2027 entry form, to their local participating VFW Post. Find your sponsoring local VFW Post as applications must be turned in by midnight, Oct. 31.
The 2026-27 theme is:
“What a Veteran Taught Me About America.”
About the 2025-2026 winner ...
Andrew Ge, an eighth grade student from San Ramon, California, was named the 2025-2026 Patriot's Pen first place winner. His essay on the theme, "How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?" won the national first place $5,000 award. Ge was sponsored by San Ramon Valley VFW Post 75 located in Danville, California.
Watch as Ge delivered his winning essay during the 2026 VFW Parade of Winners ceremony that was streamed live from the Union League of Philadelphia, or read his essay here. See the complete list of 2026 national winners.

DVMS Athletics
⚖️ UIL Extracurricular Event Conduct & Ejection Rule
To ensure a safe and respectful environment at all extracurricular athletic events, students and spectators are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior.
Event officials have the authority to immediately eject a student or spectator for inappropriate behavior. A verbal warning is not required before an ejection.
Inappropriate behavior may also result in the individual being banned from district property in accordance with district policy.
Assaulting a UIL official in retaliation for performing their duties results in an immediate prohibition from participating in future UIL or school-district extracurricular activities.
Bottom line for our families:
🏆 Support our students. Respect the officials. Represent DVMS with pride.

Sick Day Guidelines
When should my teen stay home?
YISD Sick Day Guidelines: Key Points for Families
Fever: Keep your child home with a temperature of 100°F or higher. Students may return after being fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication. Do not give fever medication simply to lower the temperature and then send the student to school.
Vomiting or diarrhea: Students should remain home and return after they have been symptom-free for 24 hours. For diarrhea, the guidelines specify 3 or more loose/runny stools within 24 hours and that the student should also be able to tolerate a normal diet before returning.
Severe or uncontrolled cough: Keep your child home when coughing is severe or uncontrolled, even without fever. Coughing accompanied by fast or difficult breathing, wheezing, or fever should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
Flu-like illness: A student with a cough and fever of 100°F or higher should stay home until the cough is mild and the student has been fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
Pink eye/conjunctivitis: Students with symptoms should remain home until evaluated by a healthcare provider. If bacterial, they may return after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment, and a healthcare provider's note is required to return.
Unexplained rash: Students should remain home until evaluated by a healthcare provider to determine whether the rash is contagious. A healthcare provider's note is required to return.
Possible strep throat: Significant sore throat, especially with pain when swallowing and other symptoms, should be evaluated. Students may return after 24 hours of antibiotics AND 24 hours fever-free without fever-reducing medication. A healthcare provider's note is required.
Student Discipline and Safety
Gun Safety
Dear Ysleta ISD parent/guardian,
Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of firearms. The attached information will help you learn about options – as well as how to talk to your child and others – regarding the safe storage of firearms.
It is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
Failed to secure the firearm; or
Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access.
The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two). Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.
Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
Sincerely,
Ysleta ISD Office of Emergency Management & Preparedness
