Term 2 | Week 2 | 01/05/2026
From the Principal
Welcome Back, to Term 2
Dear Families, students and staff,
Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 2 of the academic year. Staff and students have settled well into school routines, and we thank our families for their ongoing support in ensuring students arrive at school ready for learning each day.
Parent, Teacher and Student Meetings
Parent, Teacher and Student meetings were held on 21 April in the College Gymnasium from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. We thank the many families who took the opportunity to meet with teaching staff across the College. Attendance data indicates that 32% of families participated in these meetings.
Families are invited to provide feedback by completing the following form:
Parent Teacher Student Meetings – Fill out form
As we move into Term 2, I encourage all students to reflect on their learning progress from Term 1 and to set new goals for the term ahead. Sharing goals with close friends or family members is an important step—it promotes accountability and allows those around us to support and encourage progress toward achieving them.
Use of ACROD Parking Bays
As a school community, we have three ACROD parking bays designated for those who are eligible to use them. Our community is generally very respectful in keeping these bays available for those who require them, and I am grateful for this consideration.
I kindly ask that drivers who hold an ACROD permit use these bays only when it is necessary to exit the vehicle or to collect a child with a physical disability. Given the limited number of bays available, they are essential for students who are unable to walk long distances to vehicles, as well as for parents or carers who need to walk to classrooms to collect their children.
At times, we have observed fit and able students accessing vehicles displaying ACROD permits without an evident need for accessible parking. An ACROD permit is not intended as a priority or convenience parking option; rather, it exists to support the specific access needs of members of our community and to promote equity and inclusion across our campus.
Thank you for your understanding and continued cooperation in supporting those within our community who rely on these facilities.
The ACROD Parking Program provides support to access the community for Western Australians who have a severe mobility restriction. The eligibility of this permit is rigorous. You must meet one of the following criteria:
- You are unable to walk and always require the use of a wheelchair, mobility or medical aid; or
- Your ability to walk is significantly restricted by a permanent medical condition; or
- Your ability to walk is significantly restricted by a temporary disability or medical condition (for a minimum of six months); or
- You are legally blind.
Winter Uniform
From next week, all students will be required to attend the College wearing the correct winter uniform. Secondary students may continue to wear their sports uniform, including the College tracksuit, on their allocated two sport days per week.
Please note that the Uniform Shop has currently exhausted its supply of scarves. Families will be notified once new stock becomes available.
ANZAC Day
On behalf of our community, I extend my sincere thanks to Head Girls Ruby G and Florence C, Head Boarder Nevaeh W, and Year 12 Boarding Representative Lara A, for laying a wreath at the Kalamunda RSL Dawn Service last Saturday morning. Ruby and Florence also shared a reflection on what ANZAC Day means to them and recited the poem In Flanders Fields. A brief excerpt from their address is included below:
Remembering ANZAC Day is about choosing not to forget. It’s about taking time to think about those who never came home and the families who carry that loss for the rest of their lives.
As young people, we honour them by caring enough to remember. By listening to their stories. By reflecting. By standing in silence and recognising that the life we live today was and is shaped by their sacrifices. Because ANZAC isn’t just history—it’s memory. It lives on in the stories we hear, the respect we show, and the way we choose to remember those who gave everything.
I extend my thanks to our boarding students who joined us on Saturday morning, attending in full winter uniform and accompanied by Boarding Supervisor Mrs Jennifer Moody. The students in attendance with Mrs Moody were Dot W, Jessica T, Ally M, Mia N, Violet Q, and Olivia M.
Thank you also to the many St Brigid’s College students and staff who joined the wider community in paying their respects and honouring our ANZACs.
Jurien Bay Visit
Last Wednesday, the Head of Boarding, Ms Sam Jenner, and I travelled to Jurien Bay to visit some of our current and prospective boarding families. Jurien Bay is a beautiful coastal community located approximately three hours north of Perth.
If you know of a family who may be interested in joining our boarding community, please contact our Registrar, Ms Patty Majko, for further information at majko.patty@stbrigids.wa.edu.au
In Conclusion
I wish all our students a wonderful term filled with high levels of learning in every lesson, every day.
Please be reminded that our community is committed to working closely with families, as a strong partnership between home and school is essential in supporting students to achieve their goals.
Kind regards
Mrs Veronica Parker | Principal

Faith and Mission
From the Head of Faith and Mission
It has been a wonderful and energising start to Term 2, with students and staff engaging enthusiastically in faith, service, and community life. The term has begun with a strong sense of purpose, connection, and joy in Ministry,
This week we began St Brigid’s Rosary Month, offering students and staff the opportunity to pray a decade of the Rosary as year-group cohorts. May is dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God, and the Rosary is a beautiful prayer that invites her loving intercession. This week, Year 12 and Year 11 prayed together in the Chapel, with staff, Year 8, Year 10, and Pre-Primary to Year 6 participating next week. Students are encouraged to bring their own Rosary beads.
We are also delighted to announce the formal launch of the College Christian Service-Learning (CSL) program. Year 11 and 12 students have taken part in information sessions to continue their MIAMAD involvement, while Years 7-10 will begin induction sessions from next week, followed by information letters being sent home to families. The CSL program provides meaningful opportunities for students to live out Christ-like service, reflecting our Mercy values of compassion, justice, respect, hospitality, service, and courage. The program will also be introduced in the Primary School later this year.
Today the Year 7 students completed their first Secondary School Retreat, which is an important and joyful milestone. Retreats provide time to pause, reflect, grow in faith, and build relationships, all while having fun. The focus of the Year 7 retreat was Saint Brigid and marked the beginning of an exciting new element of the Retreat Program: a pilgrimage called ‘The Walk.’ This cohort is the first to begin the journey, which will continue through to Year 12 and conclude at the original St Brigid’s School in West Perth. Students received their Pilgrimage Passport prior to their departure and completed the first stage of the walk from the College to Lesmurdie Falls Picnic Area. The day was filled with games, reflection, learning, and concluded with a beautiful liturgy in the College Chapel-a memorable experience for all.
As always, families and friends of the College are warmly invited to share in the liturgical life of our community. Please see below for upcoming celebrations and opportunities to participate.

Congratulations To Our Outstanding Student Athletes!
Grace H (Year 12) has been selected in the Western Australian Under 18 State Football Team, which will compete in the upcoming national championships — a remarkable achievement.
Amelie M (Year 11) has also achieved an extraordinary milestone, earning selection in the Australian Under 17 Squad for 2026.
These selections represent two of the highest honours available to athletes at their respective ages. We congratulate Grace and Amelie on their dedication, talent, and hard work, and wish them every success in their representative journeys ahead.
CPSSA Swimming Carnival 2026
The SBC primary swim team made a fantastic splash at this year’s CPSSA Swim Carnival at HPC Stadium. Competing in the highly competitive A division carnival, our swimmers rose to the challenge with determination, teamwork, and incredible school spirit. Many students achieved personal bests, while others stepped up to take on difficult events, showing resilience and a commitment to giving their best for the team.
The highlight of the day was the exceptional performance of our Year 6 girls, who impressed everyone with their outstanding results in the pool. Their efforts played a significant role in the team’s overall success and were a great source of pride for the school. They won almost all of their individual races, as well as winning the 4x 50m freestyle relay and 4x 50m medley relay.
We are proud to announce the girls finished 2nd overall, the boys finished 6th, and 5th overall school. An exceptional achievement that reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students.
Congratulations to every student who participated and represented the College with pride. Thank you to the Mr Gallanagh and Mrs Curley and our parent volunteers who helped make the day such a success.
Well Done!
Primary News
Class Focus - Year 2
It has been a great start to Year two this term. We learned about ANZAC Day and how it is important to remember the people who served in wars so we could live in peace. We have begun learning about our world and will explore the continents and features and countries of each.
In Science we are looking at our Earth and it’s place in space. In religion we are learning about the Holy Spirit and the sacrament of Confirmation. For math we have begun to explore and learn about the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In literacy we will look at how important it is to predict when reading and how we must answer questions about what we have read. It has certainly been a busy start to the Term.
We thank all of those who attended parent teacher Interviews, it was a wonderful opportunity to discuss your children and their progress so far this year.

Secondary News
From the Dean of Students - Year 12, Senior School Update
It already feels as though the year is slipping by, yet we remain mindful of just how significant this final year of school is for our Year 12 students. It represents the culmination of many years of effort, supported by teachers, mentors, and most importantly, their families.
The year began beautifully in Term One with our Mia Mad Ball at Fraser’s Restaurant. The students all looked stunning, and they all enjoyed a very memorable evening together.
However, preparations for Year 12 had started well before. Late in 2025, a Leavers Jacket Committee was formed by the then Year 11 cohort, who were tasked to design the leavers jackets for our Year 12s, who are now proudly wearing them. Thoughtful consideration went into every detail, including the inlay inside the number 26, which features indigenous artwork created by our talented and proud Kalkadoon-Waanyi woman, Nevaeh W. This is how Nevaeh describes her artwork:
“My artwork displayed on the year 12 leavers jacket represents the natural environment of the school and the strength of the St Brigids community. Inside the number ‘2’, the art represents the creek that flows through the natural landscape that surrounds our school. Inside the number ‘6’, the people surrounding the meeting places represents the unity and strength of the St Brigid’s community”- Nevaeh W
Another special addition to the Year 12 uniform is the leavers tie, selected by our Head Girls, Florence C and Ruby G, which will be shared to the cohort in Week 3. It has been wonderful to see our Year 12’s wearing their uniforms with such pride and unity.
This term, our students attended a sincere and moving ANZAC Day service in the gym, and several of our Year 12 students also attended or represented the College at the ANZAC Dawn Service in Kalamunda. Reverent participation in both these ceremonies demonstrated and reflected their maturity and respect in these special commemorations. We are honoured to acknowledge the committed services of all our Australian Defence Force personnel and we appreciate those who have lost their lives in service– ‘Lest We Forget’.
Term Two also bringing exams and work placements into our already busy schedules, during our pastoral care sessions, the Year 12s have been revisiting study skills in preparation for their upcoming assessments and exams. This has included revising our learned strategies from evidence-based learning informed by the work of The Learning Scientists, as well as a session on how to receive and apply feedback. These approaches are helping students refine their study habits as assessments and exams draw closer.
The Year 12 cohort is now looking forward to our Mother and Daughter / Special Lady Dinner, a cherished opportunity to spend meaningful time with the significant women in our lives. On behalf of the Year 12 cohort, we wish all mothers and special women in our community a very happy Mother’s Day.
With only two full terms of school remaining, we hope our Year 12s savour each milestone and embrace the moments that make this final year so memorable.
Catherine Wildish | Dean of Students, Years 11 & 12
From the Heads of Learning - Religious Education
In Religious Education, students from Year 7 to Year 12 are encouraged to explore their faith, ask meaningful questions, and make connections between belief and daily life. This year, we have been excited to introduce our new Year 7 Religion course, which provides a strong foundation as students begin their secondary journey.
In Term 1, Year 7 students focused on the idea of community. This gave them the opportunity not only to learn about the Catholic Church as a global community, but also to develop a deeper understanding of our own St Brigid’s community. Students explored the story of Catherine McAuley and the Mercy Sisters, as well as the life of St Brigid, helping them to see how our school’s identity and values have been shaped. One of the highlights was seeing students engage so thoughtfully in identifying and interpreting the signs and symbols around our school, gaining a greater appreciation for the meaning behind them.
In Term 2, students will begin exploring key aspects of the Catholic faith, including developing their understanding of God, the life and teachings of Jesus, the Mass, and what it means to live as a Catholic today.
Across all year levels, Religion is about more than learning content, it’s about encouraging students to reflect, to grow, and to think about how they can make a positive difference in their communities. We’ve also been very fortunate to have Father Michael McMahon and Father Michael Twigg visit our classrooms. They have been fantastic in sharing their experiences and connecting with students.

Uni Taster Day For Our Flexitrack Students
Our Year 12 FlexiTrack students tasted the joy and freedom of being university students for a day. Guided by a student ambassador our young people registered for the day and were given a bag full of university inspired merch. The day was filled with a series of lectures and workshops dealing with a wide variety of disciplines including criminology, nursing and education.
The sessions gave students a taste of these subjects which will be useful knowledge which will go towards choosing their electives next term. Lunch of pizza and juice boxes was served up in the Bush Court where students met Bam Bam the robot dog, played drone basketball and volleyball in the beautiful sunshine.
The final session was a Q and A with the student ambassadors who offered the benefit of their experience. All in all, it was a wonderful day with one student summing up her experience saying, “My experience at the Uni Taster Day at Murdoch University was a positive and informative experience. Going into the day I was unsure of the path I wanted to take but by the end of the day I gained clarity on a future career pathway. It was a fun and helpful experience. “
