100 Days of School Celebrated
After many snow days, we finally were able to celebrate 100 days of school. Kindergarten celebrated by dressing up and counting and sharing 100 items brought from home. Many other activities took place throughout the day and throughout the school such as special crafts, math activities involving 100, stories, and games.
George Washington Essay Contest
GES is so proud of our school winners in the Fourth Grade George Washington Essay Contest. They wrote some exceptional essays about George Washington's life and adventures. Hasassah M., Konnor C., and Demi L. were recognized at a luncheon at the Martha Washington Inn.
DAR Flag Essay Contest
We would like to extend congratulations to Mya-Lena B. for finishing second place in the county for the Daughters of the American Revolution Flag Essay Contest. We are so proud of you!
The Marriage of Q and U
Our Pre-K classroom recently celebrated one of our most exciting and meaningful literacy traditions, the Q & U Wedding!
As part of our phonics learning, we teach our students that the letter Q almost always needs its best friend U. To make this important reading rule unforgettable, we brought it to life with a joyful classroom celebration. Our girls arrived dressed as beautiful queens, and our boys came dressed as spirited quarterbacks. The smiles and excitement in the room were absolutely priceless!
We held a lovely ceremony where we talked about how Q and U work together as a team, just like good friends who help one another. After the ceremony, we enjoyed a cheerful reception filled with music, laughter, and sweet treats. The children were so proud to take part in every moment.
Events like our Q & U Wedding are more than just dress-up fun. They help our youngest learners build strong literacy foundations in a way that is playful, engaging, and memorable. By combining imagination with academics, our students not only remember that Q and U belong together, but they also practice confidence, cooperation, and speaking in front of others.
We are so proud of our Pre-K students and the joy they bring to learning each day! :)
Greendale Elementary on the National Stage
Greendale Elementary proudly represented Washington County Schools at the National ESEA Conference in Denver. Presenters Michael Colston, Lucy Davenport, and Dr. Brenda Sprinkle shared Home to School: Transforming Literacy Outcomes Through Family and Community Engagement, highlighting how one rural school used strong family and community partnerships to improve literacy outcomes and earn National ESEA Distinguished School recognition.
Be a Bean Recognition - GES - Hometown Heroes
Principal Michael Colston, Tammy Boyd (Food Service), and Tracey Lester (Secretary) were recently recognized by the School Board Members for their compassion and teamwork. When a family from another school in Washington County was experiencing hardship and needed access to warm food, the Greendale team worked together to help ensure the family received a hot meal. Their response was thoughtful, coordinated, and centered on the care for our children and families.
School Counselor Appreciation
Greendale Elementary would like to thank Mrs. Lockhart for all she does for our students. We truly are blessed to have a counselor that cares so much about our students and our school. Thank-you, Mrs. Lockhart!
School Resource Officer Appreciation
Greendale Elementary would like to extend our sincerest appreciation to Officer Roberts for serving as our school resource officer. SRO Roberts works diligently to build relationships with students and keep our school safe. Thank-you, SRO Roberts!
Book Fair - February 25 - March 4
Book Fair is currently underway. All students have had the opportunity to browse the Scholastic Book Fair. The last day for students to purchase books will be March 4.
Friday Assembly
In February, GES began a new event called Friday Assembly. The purpose of Friday Assembly is to bring the entire school together once a week for the pledges, announcements, and student and staff recognitions. Students remain in the gym after morning bus duty and the assembly takes place before students are dismissed to class. Friday Assembly is a great opportunity to bring the school together on a regular basis and provide recognition to students and staff who have demonstrated good deeds, academic achievement, or exceptional recognition and awards.
Safety Patrol for the Third Quarter
Another crew of students have taken on the responsibilities of safety patrol for the third nine weeks. Safety patrol members work hard to be of assistance to students who need help and to maintain safety in our hallways and on our sidewalks at arrival and dismissal.
