OPR Weekly Update
June 6, 2025

Dear OPR Families,
On Tuesday, June 3rd, Mrs. Curran (Gr. 3) and Ms. Udahl (Gr. 5) were honored by the Norfolk County Teachers Association. Mrs. Curran received the Honor Award for Walpole teachers for her selfless service to the students and families at OPR. Ms. Udahl was presented with the Rookie of the Year award for being a newer teacher who has shown amazing leadership and hard work with her students. Mrs. Curran was also surprised with the NCTA Teacher of the Year award at the end of the night! It was an amazing and exciting moment to see Mrs. Curran recognized, for her over 32 years of teaching, and for her endless time and dedication to her students, families and colleagues. We are truly blessed to have such a remarkable teacher here at OPR! Congratulations to both Ms Udahl and Mrs. Curran!!

CURRICULUM UPDATE
Digital Learning with Mrs. Milnamow
As we wrap up another fantastic school year, I want to wish you and your children a joyful, relaxing, and safe summer! It has been a year full of growth, discovery, and creativity, and we are incredibly proud of all that our students have accomplished. Their hard work and enthusiasm have brought so much energy to our classrooms, and we hope you take time over the break to celebrate their achievements.
Over the past few weeks, our students have been busy working on a variety of exciting end-of-year projects that showcase everything they’ve learned. Using digital tools such as Google Slides, Canva and Book Creator students created presentations, videos, and displays that reflect their knowledge and creativity across all subjects. These projects not only highlight academic skills but also demonstrate their growth in digital literacy—learning to organize information, use visuals effectively, and communicate ideas clearly and confidently.
As we head into summer, we encourage families to help children continue practicing safe and responsible online behavior. While technology is a powerful tool, summer is a great time to unplug, enjoy the outdoors, and make memories beyond the screen. Whether it’s reading a book under a tree, riding bikes, or exploring nature, we hope this summer is filled with sunshine, fun, and connection. Thank you for your continued partnership—see you in the fall!
STEM with Mrs. Morris
As the year ends, please check your house for OPR Library books and send them back to me in the STEM Lab.
Kindergarten students listened to the story “If I Built a House”. They then began designing their dream house. Next week they are going to build their dream houses! I can’t wait to see their engineering come to life.
First grade students listened to the story My Heart is a Zoo and created animals out of paper hearts for their first stop motion video. The following week they used the white board makers and tables to create a story of their own.
Second grade students used STEM tools to create their name for their stop motion videos after listening to the story “Alma and How She Got Her Name”.
Third grade students used the STEM tools to create their own version of a picture book. They used markers, characters, and engineering tools to retell some of the stories they love the most. They also got to show their classmates the Scratch projects they created in May.
Fourth grade students created a Scratch project that they coded a program for their name. They then created a Makey Makey name tag and shared them with their classmates.
Fifth grade students created a playable game on Scratch created Makey Makey controllers for their classmates to play. We also spent time presenting the prosthetics projects that they work so hard on.
It’s been an amazing year in STEM and I look forward to working with your students again in the fall!
