A huge thank you to the students and families for their amazing fundraising efforts for the Terry Fox Run. Our goal was to raise $3000. As a school, we raised, including the t-shirt sales, a total of $4145.00! This means that some teachers will be getting a pie in the face at our next assembly.

We are very excited to get choir rolling in the music room! This year we will have 2 choirs - a Grade 2 Choir and a Grade 3/4 Choir. More information on the start dates will be coming soon.

  • Grade 2 Choir will take place on Tuesdays at lunch hour
  • Grade 3/4 Choir will take place on Thursdays at lunch hour

If your children don’t typically stay for lunch but would like to participate, they will just need to stay for their choir day each week.

There will be a signup sheet in the music room for each choir, so they may sign up the first week of October. More information will follow on Seesaw!

Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is October 5-9th. The Niverville Fire Department will be visiting classrooms on October 13th to talk to the students about fire safety. NES continues to have regular fire drills to practice safe evacuation. We encourage families to check their smoke alarms and review their home safety plan. NES will also be sending home information about upcoming contests and smoke alarms checks and home escape plans.

Forks and Spoons

A friendly reminder to send cutlery along with your child's lunch if it is needed. We have had a significant increase in students asking for cutlery at the office over the lunch hour and we no longer have supplies to hand out to students. Thank you for your cooperation.

School Lunch Support

Food is brain fuel! It is important for kids to eat well in order to learn. If for some reason your family is finding it hard to fill lunch kits for your children, please connect with our school office and we would be happy to help you!

In addition, all classes have Nutrition Booster Bins with a variety of healthy snacks that students can access throughout the day, to supplement the lunch/snack that are sent from home.

Zones of Regulation Parent Intro

Parents, you may here teachers talk about Zones of Regulation or your child come home and refer to a particular "zone" they are in. Below is a video with a simple explanation of the Zones of Regulation. We use this coloured zone scale with NES students to give pictures and language that help students identify how their brains and bodies are feeling. If you watch to the end of the video there are some great book suggestions for getting students familiar with talking about their feelings and self-regulation.

NES is a 'Nut Aware" School

There are children and staff in our school who have a severe allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. Exposure to even a tiny amount of this item could be potentially serious and life-threatening. We can all play a role in preventing such a dangerous and frightening situation at school. For this reason, we are a "Nut Aware" school. We do not describe the school as being "Nut Free" because we can't guarantee that students or adults have not brought nuts or traces of nuts into the building. Please help us keep all our students safe by checking the list of ingredients on items you send to school and avoid sending items that contain peanuts.

PARENT PORTAL/STUDENT INFORMATION

The HSD Parent Portal is a communication tool designed to enhance and increase parent/guardian involvement in the education of their children by providing secure online access to their child's student information. With a single username and password, you can access data for each of your children attending an HSD school. The Access IDs along with setup instructions have been sent via email to all eligible parents/guardians of new students. If you are new to NES and did not receive the specified email, please contact the school office at 204-388-4861.

Please take a few minutes to review the student information and contact information for your child. It is important that the school has current address and contact information for your child in case it is necessary to reach someone during the school day. Changes can be made through the parent portal.
