Seatbelt Check Update

After the seatbelt check on Thursday, the GIPD gave me resources to educate our families. Please always wear your seatbelts, no matter the distance you are driving. Another safety tip that we received is to slow down when driving to school. If you are coming to school from the south on Clark or from the east on Charles, please SLOW DOWN and make sure you vehicles are stopped on the curb before letting students out.

• Rear-facing: Children ride rear-facing up to age 2 or until they reach the upper weight or height limit allowed by the car seat’s manufacturer.

• Federally approved: All children up to 8 eight must ride correctly secured in a federally approved child safety seat/belt positioning booster.

• Back Seat: Children up to age 8 must ride in the back seat, as long as there is a back seat equipped with a seat belt and not occupied by other children under 8 years of age.

• Secured: Children ages 8 to 18 must ride secured in a seat belt or child safety seat (belt positioning booster).

GIPD will return in the spring for a similar check and will offer citations.
