A Trip Down Goshen Lane
Issue 23: Jan. 23, 2026
Principal's Message
Hello, Families,
Our students and staff have been working hard this week! Students have been taking their online MAP tests in both math and reading, and have been reading one on with with teachers for Acadience testing. This is an exciting time of year when we can see how our students are progressing from fall to winter. We can't wait to talk with parents more about this at winter conferences February 26th or March 5th. Teachers will be sending signups home starting next Friday. We hope to see all of our parents there!
Please have a safe and warm weekend. This weather forecast is sure looking interesting. Some are wondering what the start of next week will bring. As a reminder, please see directly below for details about schedule change notifications.
This Week's Question Around the Dinner Table:
- What is one of your favorite jokes you have heard on the GNN Morning Announcements?
Have a wonderful weekend! ⛄

Paleontologist and 4th Grade Dad Presents to Students!
Special thanks to 4th grade parent Joe Wood, a paleontologist, who brought fossils to our classrooms so our 4th graders could experience them! He shared an amazing amount of knowledge with our classes and some fantastic fossils. We got to observe and touch a bug preserved in amber, petrified poo (coprolite), petrified wood and even a megaladon tooth! Thank you from the 4th grade teachers!

Related Arts Corner with Ms. Zabor in the Art Room!
4th graders are currently working on a bird collage. We learned about Ohio Artist Charley Harper and his long artistic career making. Harper was famous for making animals and celebrating the environment. Students chose a bird to create and learned how to use a reference image. The birds are coming along great and should be making their way home next week!
3rd graders are currently working on Pop-Art words. We learned about the Pop-Art movement and Ohio Artist Roy Lichtenstein. Inspired by Roy’s work, students chose an onomatopoeia to trace, outline, and cut out. Next students used primary colored papers to make shapes to surround their words with. These are turning out wonderfully and students are so proud of their work!
2nd graders just finished up their Henri Rousseau jungle tigers! First we learned about the French artist Rousseau and how he got inspiration from visiting botanical gardens and zoos. After learning about the artist, students painted papers orange and green. The next class students learned how to draw tigers and leaves on their papers, cut them out and glued them to big papers. They turned out amazing and students are so excited to show them off!
1st graders and Kindergartners are currently working on their city project. In this project students learned how to use a ruler to draw a straight line. Students also learned about how horizontal and vertical lines can be used to create a cityscape. Next week students will be using watercolors to color their cities!
Questions to ask your student:
4th and 5th grade students: What is a reference image?
What did the Pop-Art movement represent? What are the colors most used in this art period?
