RSD Communications Wins National Recognition for Video Excellence

We are proud to announce that Nate Ross, Director of Communications, in collaboration with David Hall of Lone Cricket Productions, has received two Awards of Excellence from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) as part of the 2025 Publications & Digital Media Excellence Awards. These prestigious national awards recognize outstanding work in school communications, including videos, newsletters, podcasts, websites, and more.

The first award-winning project, "The Knights’ Keep," highlighted a vital new space at Reading High School dedicated to supporting unaccompanied youth and students facing housing instability by providing a safe, welcoming environment and access to basic needs.

The second honored piece, "We "R" Reading," served as a motivational video to energize and inspire educators ahead of the 2024–2025 school year, celebrating the power and purpose of the Reading School District community.

Both projects will be recognized at the NSPRA 2025 National Seminar during the Annual Meeting and Celebration of Achievement on Sunday, July 20, in Washington, D.C..

RSD also received a News Release Honorable Mention, in collaboration with the Donovan Group, for Publication and Digital Media Award for Andrea Jeronimo Leco Becomes First Non-U.S. Citizen Employed as a Teacher by Pennsylvania School District.

School Improvement Plans 2025-2026

Every school in the Reading School District has submitted the first draft of their 2025-26 School Improvement Plans. School Improvement Teams analyze their school data to identify strengths and challenges in their schools. They then select and outline evidence-based action steps that each school will take to improve student outcomes in the upcoming school year. Schools are required to post their plans for public review.

Parents, staff and community members are welcome to review the plans and provide feedback by visiting the School Improvement page on the District website, reading their school’s plan and submitting their feedback on the Google Form linked at the top of the page. This feedback is then considered to make adjustments to the plans before they are submitted to the PA Department of Education.

Embryo Development at Lauer's Park Elementary School

Third grade students at Lauer's Park Elementary had the opportunity to observe embryo development and manage the classroom incubator across chicken incubation for a period of time this Spring. The Penn State Extension PA 4-H program engages students with the set up of the incubator, the incubation of fertile eggs, and the hatching and brooding of baby chicks within each third-grade classroom. Students are able to learn and observe the development of the embryos into baby chicks. Great job!

Red Knights Read Event

The first Red Knights Read event, hosted by the RSD librarians, was held at Northeast Middle School for all RSD families on Wednesday, May 28th. The event was moved inside because of the rain but it was still a lot of fun with published authors, guest readers, Reading Public Library, United Way, snacks, free books, and fantastic raffles and prizes. A huge shout out to RSD high school students who volunteered to help the night be a success!
