LEADERSHIP LETTER LEADERSHIP LETTER

Dear Legacy Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s weekend and rich conversations with your children’s teachers last Thursday! If you weren’t able to make it to conference day, please reach out to your child’s teacher to get the information they have to share with you about your child’s progress in their class.

Last month, I shared with you a bit about the EXCEL Model, and how it guides all of our interpersonal relationships within the school. We started with the E for engage and X for x-plore. So this month, let’s go a little further into the model through C-communicate and E-empower this time!

Once we have engaged and explored with each other, the next step is to communicate the message that needs to be sent. When teachers practice this, it’s the lesson that they will deliver that class period. When staff engage in this interpersonally, this is whatever the topic of our meeting or professional development may be. The reason why the first two are so important is because it lays the foundation for entering into conversation with people and creates a space of being known and understood personally. We as people all desire connection and understanding. Without it, whatever message that needs to be delivered will likely not land the way it was intended.

The next space is a very important one, as it gets to the heart of our work as educators. Empower from CKH comes with the phrase, “your teaching becomes their doing”. We empower students to take the tools and information they have been given by their teachers and apply them to their studies and relationships with others. We also want to empower our students to take the knowledge they have been given and rise as leaders in their application of those skills.

With solid implementation of those first four principles, we will be a school that thrives - both academically and interpersonally.

Next month, I’ll wrap the EXCEL Model up and tell you about the “Launch”. So, stay tuned!

As always, it’s a pleasure to serve you and your children here at Legacy. Our doors are always open to you to share your concerns and victories with us!

Legacy Parents,

Please take a moment to review our school uniform dress code. Teachers have been urged by school administration to be more consistent with maintaining this code. Many times, we know that children’s wardrobes are out of their control, so we are asking you to help us by reviewing the dress code and doing a quick check of your kids before they leave for school each day.

Teachers will be following the policy and steps outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook, which will either include a quick clothing adjustment or a call to parents for a change of clothing to be brought for them.

A couple of areas we have seen the most infractions are:

  • Sweatshirts and hoodies - if the sweatshirt is solid coloring with no labels or wording and is in our school colors, the student will be allowed to wear those.

  • Shorts and skirts - must be of “modest length”, meaning that the length must be longer than the fingertips when hands are resting at their sides.

Thank you for helping us maintain this standard of excellence!

We celebrate our students in many ways including character education. Our elementary students have R.O.A.R. Store and students of the week while our middle school students have a T.W.I.X. program. In our lunchroom, we have a Kindness Hero Award as well. All students have moments of recognition during assemblies that build confidence, encourage positive choices, and strengthen our school community. If you would like to get involved and celebrate our character trait program, please use the links below.

As we approach Dr. Seuss Week, we look forward to celebrating the joy of reading and creativity of his stories. Students may celebrate Dr. Seuss Week by participating in our themed dress days. Students can either dress in the theme of the day or wear a uniform. Dr. Seuss books and math sheets will offer an opportunity to support our curriculum in a joyful way. His text supports critical thinking, creative expression, literacy development, such as rhyming, phonemic awareness, vocabulary and comprehension skills.

The Future Planning Committee would like to know more about what our parent base is looking for regarding certain topics. The more responses we receive, the better we can serve families in the future. We appreciate you spending time to give us this feedback so that we can continue to improve Legacy Academy.
