Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS)
On Wednesday, April 1st, Thursday, April 2nd, and Friday, April 3rd, all middle school students will take the Colorado Measures of Academic Success. These specific assessments will include three units of English language arts and three units of mathematics. The schedule has been built so that each student will take no more than two units per day over the course of three days. Students should come to school on Tuesday, March 31st with their computers and chargers so that they can leave them plugged in at school overnight.
Additional testing blocks include 11th Grade CMAS Science on Monday, March 30th, and 8th grade CMAS Science on Monday, April 6th.
These assessments are a snapshot of an individual student’s mastery of Colorado’s academic state standards. In addition, teachers use this assessment data to improve their instruction. Lastly, these assessments lead up to the high school PSAT and SAT. Ultimately, we want to ensure all students are college and/or career ready once they graduate from high school. Please support our testing of students by making certain they are on time, well rested, and fed. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Trinca at jtrinca@gunnisonschools.net.

Student Release During the School Day
In an effort to alleviate disruptions to classroom learning, if you need to pick up your child during the school day, please do your best to utilize a passing period. We understand that this may not always be possible, but when it is, it really benefits our learning environment. Per the student handbook, middle school students must be signed out from the front office by a guardian. Please also call ahead or email. High school students can sign out from the office on their own with guardian approval (email cbssattendance@gunnisonschools.net or call 970-641-7720). Thanks for your help and support!
