What's Happening at Norwood School 10/14-10/17
Principal's Message
Messages From Manchester
Happy Long Rainy Weekend! I hope you all were able to find some good family fall fun on Saturday! Sunday & Monday were pretty wet. ☔
We had a great time on Thursday night at BINGO for Books. Thank you to Cameron Kadek for hosting and making magic happen. I was able to chat with many curious kiddos, who aksed very interesting questions! Some of my favorites were:
- What's your favorite holiday? Thanksgiving!
- What made you go into education? My own experience and difficulty learning in elementary school. Hoping I could be the light in someone elses learning journey.
- What makes me a good friend? My big heart and my sense of humor!
- What makes me cry? EVERYTHING! I am a big mushball!
Beginning of year diagnostic is over in Grades 1-5. Students worked hard and provided a solid baseline to build goals and next steps. Students will be participating in Data Chats to know what their strengths are and areas of growth. Together we can all support their growth & development in Reading & Math.
Kindergarten will be testing through the end of the week, Oct 17th.
Have a wonderful week. Remember, 80% of success is showing up! Let's do this!

SCHOOL UPDATES
Fruits & Vegetable Program
Starting next week the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program will kick off again this year. This program is made possible through a grant for all Warwick Schools. Please see the calendar!
One-Way Traffice
Thank you for everyone who is building new muscle memory and following the ONE-WAY Traffic Pattern during morning drop off! 🤩
For the safety of students and families, please use one-way traffic! This is essential during morning arrival and dropoff. Exit towards Pierce Ave ONLY! Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Attendance Matters
Attendance Matters
School attendance is a powerful predictor of student outcomes. Rhode Island defines chronic absenteeism as the percentage of students who miss 10% or more of school days during the year (or two days per month). Research shows that chronic absenteeism is associated with a number of negative consequences for students, including lower achievement, disengagement from school, course failure, and an increased risk of dropping out. Check out the leaderboard and additional data here. See Norwood's current stats in the pic below!
This past week was difficult with a lot of illness and absences. We are looking for an increase this week to keep our numbers up!
Starting in October, we will be celebrating students monthly for being "on track" with their attendance. Students will be awarded a certificate and be able to enter a raffle to have breakfast or lunch with Ms. Manchester.
Walking School Bus
Keep a look out for information about the Walking School Bus. 🚌
Student Absences
Students will be marked absent, no matter the reason, if they are not in school.
If the absence is due to illness please supply a doctor's note to have the absence labeled as an excused absence.
STUDENT ABSENCE CALL-IN PROCEDURE
In accordance with Rhode Island State Law #16-19-10, Notification of Pupil Absence, the Warwick School Department requires that all parents/guardians call their child’s elementary school on the day that he/she will not be in attendance. We would like to receive all calls by 9:15 in the morning. If you are aware of a pending absence, feel free to call at any time prior to the day of the absence. In the event we do not hear from you, an automated call will be sent at 10:00 a.m. to inform you that your child did not arrive at school.
