Active Minds

Active Minds Chapter Launches at Bartlett High School – Join Us in Wearing Green for Mental Health Awareness!

Bartlett High School is proud to announce the launch of its very own Active Minds Chapter, a student-led initiative focused on changing the conversation around mental health. This exciting new group aims to raise awareness, break stigma, and create a supportive environment where every student feels seen, heard, and supported.

To celebrate the launch and show support for mental health awareness, students, staff, and community members are encouraged to wear green on Thursday, June 12. Green is the official color for mental health awareness, symbolizing strength, support, and hope.

As part of the initiative, green bandanas are also available for purchase. Wearing one is a visible sign of solidarity and a message that it’s okay to not be okay. Bandanas can be purchased by contacting Ms. Shanahan.

Together, we can make a difference. Let’s stand up, speak out, and support one another—because mental health matters. Join Active Minds Club by contacting Amaya Torres or Ms Shanahan.

Reminders Reminders

Buses

Students must ride the busses that are assigned to them according to where they live. Students will not be allowed onto a bus if it is not their assigned pickup location or their assigned bus. In the afternoon, students MUST board the busses at BHS. If a student goes to WMS to get on the bus, they WILL NOT be allowed onto the bus.

Doctor Notes

If your student is absent from school, a doctor's note that states, "the parent contacted our office to inform us their child was ill and did not attend school" is not accepted as an excused absences. These notes, however, will be considered when coding your student as "not truant". If a note has more information such as "based on the symptoms the child is presenting, our office has determined that it can be managed at home and should return to school on______", then the note will be reviewed and most likely be accepted as excused. Any further questions regarding doctor notes should be asked of the nurses' office, kpepin@webster-schools.org.

Student Food Delivery

This is not allowed under any circumstance. If you have forgotten your lunch, a family member can always bring your lunch to the main office. They must come into the office and bring it to Ms. Donnelly who will hold it until your lunch period. Door Dash and other delivery services will not be allowed into the building moving forward. This is explained in detail in our handbook.

Cell Phones

The use is not allowed in our classrooms from the beginning of the class until the end of the class. There are no exceptions to this. Please look in our handbook for the specific details. Reminder that if you put your phone in the door holder for the class period you will receive Bartlett Bucks each time!

Tardy to School

Our school day begins at 7:30am. This is the time that you need to be in your first period class. Saturday schools will be utilized for continued tardiness to school in the 4th quarter, for every 5 tardies to school, students will receive 1 Saturday School. If you are a sports player or take part in an after school activity, you MUST be here by 8am in order to participate.

Grading Policy

Loss of Points/Credit due to absences -

5-9 unexcused absences from a class will lose 10 points from their grade in that class for that quarter.

Grade/Credit Recovery Process:

Process 1 - Students can recover those lost points in the following quarter, if and only if, they have no more than 2 unexcused absences from that class during that quarter.

Process 2 (if last quarter of the course) - Students can work to recover lost points as soon as they reach their 5th unexcused absence by attending a 3 hour Saturday School session (up to 3 missed classes per session). Students may attend multiple sessions to recover for multiple courses if needed.

10 or more unexcused absences from a class will result in an automatic attendance failure for the quarter and receive a grade of a 40 (District Minimum Grade).

Grade/Credit Recovery Process:

Students may earn credit back by attending a 3 hour Saturday School session (up to 3 missed classes per session). Students may attend multiple sessions to recover for multiple courses if needed. They must attend enough Saturday School sessions to bring absences below 10 at which point the 10 point deduction will be enforced as noted above.

Attendance Policy

A public school district may excuse up to 7-day sessions or 14-half day sessions in any period of six months.

Based on this law, students may be approved for up to 7 excused absences in a 6 month period. Excused absences are defined as follows: Illness with medical documentation, A medical appointment that must be made during the school day, Observing a recognized religious holiday when the observance is during school, A family emergency, A planned absence for a personal or educational purpose that has been approved by the school, Educational disruption caused by a student's homelessness, unplanned hospitalization, or placement in foster care or a youth development center, Dismissal by the school nurse for illness.

**Note: Vacations will not be considered excused and should be avoided during days school is in session.

Mr. Duque's Classroom - Principles of Engineering

Students in POE designed, built, and programmed a machine to play golf. Students programmed their machines to swing the "club" with varying power levels, and most featured some sort of hydraulic unit to position the golf ball. After two class periods worth of testing their machine's power, accuracy, repeatability, and making adjustments along the way, the class went outside to play three holes of golf around the Bartlett campus, complete with natural and man-made obstacles along the way.
