Message from Ms. Gullo

Dear Yellow Springs Families,

I hope this communication finds you all healthy and well! It is hard to believe we are at the end of May! Please know school is closed on Monday, May 31st in observance of Memorial Day. I wish you all a safe holiday weekend!

Thank you to our car rider families for spacing out your arrival time for afternoon dismissal. Spacing out arrival ensures we do not create a traffic back up on Yellow Springs Road, which would make a dangerous situation. You may pick up your child(ren) anytime between 2:00 and 2:25. Thank you for your cooperation!

As you may have read or heard, there is a summer program at most elementary schools this year. That program, called Elevate, uses specific criteria to invite targeted students for a summer program of learning and enrichment. Invitations have already gone out to those families of students who are “fence-sitters”, students who are right at grade level in reading and math who need a little boost over the summer to start the year. We know many students would benefit from this program but due to grant funding, only a total of 60 students will be part of this program. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Workmeister, program coordinator (ann.workmeister@fcps.org) or Dr. Swire, program administrator (Katherine.swire@fcps.org).

2021-2022 Learning Intention - FCPS needs your decision on whether your child will attend school next year in person five days per week or enroll in the newly created FCPS Virtual Program*. Your response to the form will be your official decision for your child for the 2021-2022 school year. If you do not submit the form, your child will automatically be enrolled (by default) to attending in person. If you have more than one child enrolled in FCPS, please complete one form per child. Link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SY20212022_ParentDecisionForm It is important that you carefully review and understand all the details regarding each option. Please contact us at school if you have any questions regarding the options. The form will close at midnight on Friday, June 4. (*Note: The FCPS Virtual Program is a newly created program and will operate differently than the prior virtual learning model. Currently, the FCPS Virtual Program is not available for students enrolled at charter schools.)

We will honor our 5th grade students on Wednesday, June 16th with a drive through celebration.

2:00 – 2:30 Ms. Small’s class

2:30 – 3:00 Mrs. Schiavone’s class

3:00 – 3:30 Mr. Morahan’s class

We will be sharing a virtual celebration with students and their families on June 16th as well.

I want to let you know that a new principal will be serving the Yellow Springs community for the 2021-2022 school year. I will be retiring in the fall and it is important that a new principal transition July 1st to prepare for the coming school year. The new principal will be named in June.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Yellow Springs students and their families. I especially appreciate the partnership of staff, students and families during this school year. This is a great community that has shown Together We SOAR!

Best regards, Sue
