Field day fun. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the event!
Principal's Message
Dear families & friends,
This double rainbow, which graced my view yesterday morning, seemed not only auspicious (as in the rain was over and wouldn't interrupt our field day!) but also captured my sentiments about this past school year. While there were some stormy moments, and a great deal of energy was expended, the outcome is something quite impressive. While the "view" is the same in some ways, it is also impressively changed for the better. I see marked growth in each one of our students, from our kindergarteners to our departing 6th graders. Looking back at pictures from the start of the year, as we will do during tomorrow's end of year slideshow, the physical growth is obvious. How have they changed this much without us noticing it!! What stands out to me more, however, is the growth of social emotional and academic skills. Comparing student writing produced last August with their writing now highlights the great development. Seeing our students respectfully and deftly navigate social situations with little to no adult coaching similarly demonstrates the development that has occurred. As this year comes to a close, may we all take a few moments to marvel at the impressive outcomes.
Progress reports (a.k.a. "report cards") will be sent out electronically today. These reports are just one of the ways to review some of the growth of these individuals. Please reach out if you have any questions or difficulty viewing the documents. Next year's class placements will be mailed electronically Friday afternoon.
Here are a few other dates/ events to keep in mind:
Thursday June 18th, 5:30 p.m. 6th grade graduation This ceremony celebrates our 6th grade students as they transition to a new chapter. Family, friends and the community are invited to join this sweet celebration that concludes with 6th grade students ringing the school bell. Thank you to the 5th grade families & PTA who host the brief reception that follows the ceremony.
Friday June 19th, 11:30 a.m. 6th grade celebration parade and early student dismissal. Please be sure to update Pick up Patrol first thing in the morning with any changes in pick up plans. Families are welcome to join us to cheer our 6th graders in their final dismissal parade around the building. Please join us at the north side of the building (near bus pick up) before 11:30 if you wish to help cheer them on.
Thank you to the entire community for all you do to support our students and our schools. I feel very fortunate to work in and be part of such an environment. May you each have a wonderful summer.
Respectfully,
Kaiya Korb, WES Principal
Kindergarten students enjoyed a most elegant lunch, courtesy Chef Joslin and teacher Jenn Gubbins . With napkins in laps and cheers toasted, they demonstrated just how respectful and fancy they can be!

New StoryWalk® at the Moretown Recreation Fields
And Tango Makes Three
Written by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell
Illustrated by Henry Cole
This delightful book tells the true story of two male chinstrap penguins, Roy and Silo,
who live in New York City's Central Park Zoo, and are given the opportunity to hatch
and raise a baby chick.
Mr Gramzay, their keeper, noticed that, “They did everything together. They bowed to
each other. And walked together. They sang to each other. And swam together.” Roy
and Silo also copied the other penguin couples and built a nest of stones. Later they
found a rock that resembled an egg and both penguins took turns sitting on the nest
diligently trying to “hatch” it.
Seeing this, Mr. Gramzay found an egg that needed tending and placed it in their nest. It
had been laid by Betty and Porkey, a couple who often had difficulty caring for more
than one chick at a time. So when Betty again laid two, one was given to Roy and Silo.
And they knew just what to do! With great devotion, Tango was successfully hatched,
raised, and soon swimming together with all the other penguin families.
As always, we would love to have you stop by the library and tell us about your
experience on the StoryWalk® and/or your impressions of the book.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration
with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered
service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
