CGS Weekly Message
2/24/2025-2/28/2025
Good afternoon,
Happy Sunday!
We hope that everyone had a fantastic Academic Break!
March and April will be full of instruction as our teachers push to cover the last remaining content of the school year. After we return from Spring Break in April, we will be studying and preparing for our End of Course/End of Grade Exams that will start in May! It's going to be a busy few months. Please make sure that your student is prepared for school daily, on time, and stays the entire school day if possible. Instructional hours matter and any time a student leaves school early or shows up late- their instructional minutes are impacted. Thank you for putting Academics first at CGS and holding your student accountable for his or her work ethic while on campus.
REMINDER- we have had to make up some time due to instructional hours/days being missed due to inclement weather that took place in January/February. Please make note of the changes below to this year's Academic Calendar. If we miss any more school or need to make up additional time, we will let you know ASAP!
-
3/5/2025: This was originally a half day- IT WILL NOW BE A FULL SCHOOL DAY- Regular Hours.
-
3/21/2025 : This was originally a "Mental Health and Wellness Day". This will now be a FULL SCHOOL DAY- Regular Hours.
-
4/30/2025: This was originally a half day- IT WILL NOW BE A FULL SCHOOL DAY- Regular Hours.
We will also be making a slight adjustment to the last week of school. 5/21/2025 will now be a 1/2 day for all students to accommodate our Senior Pep Rally and graduation preparation exercises.
If we continue to have winter weather, more make up time may be needed. We will keep you updated. We are trying to stay away from taking days from our Spring Break in April, but Monday, April 21, 2025 will be the next potential day we will utilize as a regular school day if inclement weather continues.

These guidelines have been created to support a successful dual enrollment experience. Mrs. Walther, Mrs. Gladden, or Dr. Morris will be meeting with new eligible students for CCP February 24th-28th, 2025.
Juniors
It's time to start planning for college! The spring and summer before your senior year is a great time to visit colleges that you may be interested in applying for admission. Check out the websites of colleges and universities of your interest for opportunities to schedule a tour.
Senior Scholarship Opportunity

Attention Juniors and Seniors
Information on CCP and College Transfer Programs
CCP will be having another virtual session later this month for parents and students to learn more about the Career and College Promise Program at ACC. Here is a direct link to the registration: https://alamancecc.edu/career-and-college-promise/info-sessions.php
C3 and CSTEP are also holding an information session. These are two great transfer programs. They are focused on seniors, but this is great information for juniors, especially if they are in CCP, because there are credit limits they need to be aware of.
High School Student Advising Information and Opportunities:
Dear CGS Juniors,
The ACT will be given during school on Tuesday March 11th . All juniors are invited to two ACT Prep Sessions with Mr. Cheek. During these sessions, we will work on ACT Prep for English, Reading, Math, and Science.
Juniors have been split into two groups:
Group 1: Juniors who ARE NOT in Mr. Cheek’s current 5 th period class will meet in Mr. Cheek’s classroom on Monday, March 3rd and Wednesday, March 5th from 3:15 – 4:45 both days. Mark your calendars!
Group 2: Juniors who ARE in Mr. Cheek’s current 5 th period Math 3 class will do the ACT Prep sessions in class during the week prior to the ACT.
The ACT is a standardized test that many colleges and universities require or strongly recommend; the ACT also impacts Clover Garden’s overall school score compared to other schools in N.C., so we hope that each 11 th grade student taking this test will give their best effort.
****************************************************************************************************
Are you a graduating high school senior interested in transferring to UNC or NC State? Please join ACC on Friday, February 27th at 7 pm on Zoom (link below) to learn more about the C-STEP and C3 co-admissions programs. Students who apply and are admitted to these programs are guaranteed admittance to UNC or NC State upon graduation with an Associate in Arts, Science, or Engineering Degree provided that all program requirements are met. These programs provide academic support for students during their time at ACC and prepare them for a successful transition to university. As members of the CSTEP or C3 programs, students will attend events on ACC's campus along with the university campuses to make friendships and network.
Graduating high school seniors with fewer than 30 credit hours of college coursework are welcome to apply to C-STEP and C3, but all are welcome to attend the information session to learn more. If you will still be a CCP student in the fall, you will need to wait until the semester you are graduating to apply. The application deadline for UNC's C-STEP program is April 1st and the deadline for NC State's C3 program is June 1st.
If you cannot attend the information session, please feel free to look up information on our websites.

Middle School Girls Basketball- Conference Championship Run
As a tradition at CGS, if our teams get to conference championships or playoff championships, we like to "hype them up" before they compete. We line the hallways with our students at our K-8 campus, and our teams run through getting cheers, shouts, and high-fives from our younger students! It's part of what makes CGS so special! We love our Grizzlies! CLICK HERE for a snapshot of our Middle School Girls Basketball Team who participated in their championship run through the school as they prepped for the conference championship game! They finished as regular season conference champs but took a loss in the championship game. They finished 11-2 for the season! #GOLADYGRIZZLIES!
