Dear NPS Community,

It has been a busy and exciting first month of school across the district. As we settle into the new school year, I want to share some events from this month that have made me look forward to all that is still to come this year.

Open Houses

This month, our schools held open houses throughout the district. It was wonderful to see so many families visiting classrooms, connecting with our teachers, and learning more about your students’ school experiences. Thank you to our families for continuing to support your students, and to our staff for all the work that went into making these evenings welcoming and informative.

Molin Field Trip

On Tuesday, our fourth graders visited Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm, where they became archaeologists for the day through the Dirt Detectives program. Students excavated a mock dig site, examined artifacts, and learned how archaeology and historical sources help us to understand the people who lived before us. Not only was this such a fun trip for our students, but it also gave them an engaging introduction as they start to learn about ancient civilizations of North America in class.

Nock Special Speaker

Last week, our Nock Middle School students welcomed motivational speaker Reggie Dabbs for a presentation focused on kindness and the choices students make every day. By drawing from his own life experiences and incorporating music and humor, Dabbs encouraged our students to recognize the impact they can have on others, and reminded them that their past does not have to determine their future. Thank you to the Newburyport PTO for bringing such a meaningful experience to our students.

It has been a great start to the school year, and I want to thank our students, staff, and families for all that you have done to make that possible. I look forward to sharing more of what is happening across the district in the months to come. I hope you all have a great weekend.
