This past week, our middle school students had the opportunity to engage in some truly unique and hands-on scientific learning experiences!

Our 8th graders traveled to Colorado State University’s Spur campus, where they explored ongoing research and development in agriculture. Through this experience, students expanded their agricultural literacy while learning about the importance of sustainability and the future of both urban and rural food systems.

Meanwhile, our 7th graders enjoyed an in-house field trip focused on reptiles. Students had the opportunity to interact with a variety of reptiles from ecosystems around the world while learning about the unique adaptations these animals have developed over the course of evolution to survive and thrive in their environments.

Both teams worked incredibly hard throughout the season, delivering impressive regular season and playoff performances that ultimately propelled them to championship victories in their inaugural seasons competing in the SMCC.

We would also like to recognize and congratulate our Girls Volleyball teams, who both earned postseason berths in their inaugural seasons as well. Their hard work, dedication, and accomplishments are something to be proud of!

Weather Weather

Weather banner

As we head into colder temperatures, we wanted to take a moment to remind all PCK families of our weather delay and school closure procedures. While we abide by DCSD's weather delays and cancellations, we will always send out separate communication confirming our alignment with these procedures.

We appreciate everyone’s attention to these procedures and encourage families to plan ahead as winter weather approaches. Most importantly, the safety of our students, families, and staff remains our top priority.

Notification Notification

When inclement weather makes traveling to or from school unsafe, PCK families will be notified of any delays or closures via text message and email. Please make sure your contact information is current and accurate by checking your parent account in Infinite Campus. Delays and closures will also be posted on the PCK website as a pop-up banner on the homepage.

Delays Delays

If school is delayed, school will operate on a 90-minute delay. Our carpool start time will move from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and school will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Please note that a delayed start does not extend the school day, and afternoon pick-up will take place at the usual time.

Cancellations Cancellations

If school is cancelled, all school activities scheduled before and after school will be cancelled for the day. Families should communicate directly with their club or sport point of contact regarding any rescheduling plans.

Dress Code Dress Code

Please also remember that while students may wear boots to school during winter weather, they must bring a pair of dress code compliant shoes to change into while inside the building. Students may switch back into boots for outdoor recess or afternoon carpool.

Our Trunk-or-Treat celebration is quickly approaching, and we need your help to make it a sweet success! While Friday, October 30, may still seem a little ways off, once we return from Fall Break, the event will be just two weeks away.

To make this celebration possible for all of our students, we need a little over 25,000 pieces of candy! If you’re able to donate, we would greatly appreciate your support.

Please visit our Trunk-or-Treat Candy Sign-Up to choose a donation spot. You’re welcome to sign up for as many or as few spots as you’d like.

We ask that each donated bag of candy contains approximately 300 pieces of candy and is completely nut-free.

Candy donations are needed by the end of the day on Friday, October 23.

Our annual Hearing and Vision Screenings are scheduled to take place later this month on Wednesday, October 28 Thursday, October 29. Students in grades K-3rd, 5th, and 7th, and new students in grades 4th, 6th, and 8th will receive support and testing on these days.

As always, these screenings are made possible with our parent volunteers and generous community members who are willing to assist with the student experience on these days. To keep things running smoothly, we need 12 volunteers each day to help with student transitions and to create a calm, organized environment.

If you have availability on these dates, we would kindly request that you consider helping with these screenings. No experience is necessary at all, and further details regarding duties and responsibilities for each volunteer will be shared as we get closer to the screenings.

Class picture day and picture retake day are scheduled for Monday, October 26. This is an opportunity for students who missed the original picture day, as well as those who need a retake, to have their school photo taken for the current school year.

Please remember that all students must be in uniform for both individual picture retakes and class photos. This helps ensure a consistent and professional appearance across all student and class photos.

Please remind your student to take a moment to check the Lost and Found for anything they may have misplaced during the first two months of school. Keep in mind that items with student names are returned directly to the student’s classroom, so all items currently in the Lost and Found are unmarked or do not have a student name on them.
