From the Principal-Falcons are ready to Soar into September!
Hello Riverview Families,
What a wonderful week at Riverview! Our Falcons continue to soar as we settle into routines, dive deeper into learning, and celebrate the positive choices students are making each day. The energy in our classrooms and hallways is inspiring. With August behind us, we’re excited to head into September after the long weekend and keep the momentum going!
We are especially proud of how students are earning their Falcon tickets and working hard to demonstrate what it means to SOAR—staying safe, owning their actions, acting kindly, and reaching for their best. Thank you for reinforcing these expectations at home; together, we’re building a strong community where every child can thrive.
September is full of exciting opportunities, and I look forward to connecting with you at upcoming events and celebrating all the ways our Falcons continue to grow.

Falcon Flight Buddies Kick Off – September 2nd
On Tuesday, September 2nd, we’ll launch our very first Falcon Flight Buddy activity! Each grade level will be paired with another grade, with our primary students connected to intermediate students. These buddy pairs will engage in monthly activities together, giving our younger Falcons the chance to learn from mentors while our older Falcons practice leadership and being great role models.
To add to the fun, teachers will be encouraging students to wear their tie-dye shirts on Tuesday. We can’t wait to see our Falcons soaring together as they build friendships, practice mentorship, and strengthen our Riverview community!

Connect, Align, Grow
At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.
-
Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
-
Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.
-
Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.
CONNECT – Building Strong Relationships
At Riverview, we know that strong relationships help students feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. When students feel connected to the people around them, they are more confident and better able to take on challenges.
This week, we are highlighting the “O” in SOAR: Own Your Actions. Owning our actions means taking responsibility for our choices and learning from them.
How Families Can Help This Week: Take time at dinner, bedtime, or in the car to talk with your child about one choice they made during the day that they are proud of and one choice they might handle differently next time. These conversations help students see that reflection and responsibility are important parts of growing stronger relationships both at school and at home.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Riverview, our priority is to create a safe, focused, and distraction-free learning environment where every student can thrive. To help us maintain this, we want to share a reminder about expectations for cell phones and smart watches at school.
Cell Phones
-
Elementary students should not use cell phones during the school day.
-
If a phone is sent with your child, it must remain on silent or school mode and stay in their backpack from arrival until dismissal.
-
If you need to get an important message to your child (such as a transportation change), please call the school office, and we’ll be sure to deliver the message promptly.
-
If your child needs to reach you, they may use the school phone in the office.
Smart Watches
-
Smart watches may be used as a timepiece.
-
They should remain in school mode or be stored in backpacks during the day.
-
Please avoid texting or calling your child during school hours, the best way to reach them is through the office.
If devices are misused:
Phones or watches used during the school day for purposes other than timekeeping will be asked to remain in backpacks or may be held in the office until dismissal.
We know technology plays an important role in students’ lives, and we are committed to teaching responsible use. Together, we can help students develop healthy habits and keep their focus on learning while at school. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that Riverview continues to be a place where students can learn, grow, and succeed!
Lunchroom Reminders
We want to make lunchtime smooth and enjoyable for all students! Here are a few reminders to help things run well:
-
Lunch Choice: Students will make their lunch selection each morning when attendance is taken.
-
Bringing a Lunch: Students who bring a lunch from home may still purchase a milk if they’d like.
-
Water: A water fountain is available in the lunchroom. Students may also bring a refillable water bottle from home.
-
Lunch Balance: Please check your child’s lunch account regularly to ensure there are adequate funds available.
-
Allergies: If your child has food allergies, please be sure the office and teacher are aware so we can support their needs at lunchtime.
-
Home Lunch Reminders: For our younger students, please review with them what items from their lunch can and cannot be thrown away. This helps reduce confusion and keeps lunchboxes coming home with the right containers.
Thank you for helping us keep lunchtime safe, smooth, and enjoyable for everyone!
Counselor's Corner
This month we are talking and learning about responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the task you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choice means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible action can hurt others.
Have some fun connecting as a family this month while practicing Responsibility.
As a family think of ways in which you might make someone’s life a little easier by helping a neighbor or family friend with one of their responsibilities. Could you bring the garbage can out to the curb? Could you carry in groceries? Could you invite someone over for a meal?
Our focus for next month will be Kindness.

Celebrations & Shoutouts
This week, we’re celebrating our amazing Front Office Team!
Our front office is truly the heart of Riverview, and we are so grateful for the incredible work these two ladies do each day. They go above and beyond to support our students, families, and staff! They always greet you with a smile and a willingness to help.
From welcoming families and answering countless questions to keeping our school running smoothly behind the scenes, their dedication ensures that everything at Riverview stays on track.
Thank you for your patience, kindness, and the many ways you make our school a warm and welcoming place. We couldn’t do it without you! 💙
Nurse Updates
A nurse is now available in the office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:
-
Drop off medications or medication orders
-
Inform us of any new health conditions
-
Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)
-
Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)
We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.
If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Visitor Management System
USD 232 continue using visitor management system this year through Centegix. All visitors will continue checking in through the office, however an ID will be a requirement. This ID will be entered into the Centegix system and will create a sticker with a picture that must be visibly worn throughout the building. Nobody will be allowed in the building without an ID. Thank you in advance for your patience as we implement this new system!
Arrival/Dismissal
Car Loop Tips for a Smooth Pick-Up & Drop-Off
To help keep our car loop moving safely and efficiently:
-
Have your child practice getting in and out of their car seat or seatbelt on their own.
-
Parents, please stay in your vehicle—our staff or Honor Patrol helpers will assist as needed.
-
A folder, sign, or paper with your student’s name displayed helps us get them to your car more quickly.
Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!
Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!
For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
At Riverview we are very safety conscious. Please see the map below for specific arrival/dismissal details.

The Knight School is returning this fall to Riverview Elementary! The Knight School Chess Team will be your school's official chess team and chess party.
This revolutionary, party-based approach to chess has had amazing success—winning multiple state championships—because our unique and unprecedented educational philosophy, “the chess party,” is the perfect way to transform a complete beginner into a devastating chess machine.
Our unique model has swept America because it has never been seen before: we simply invite every beginner in your school to join our school chess team and we use only super-fun teaching methods such as super-fast chess clock-slapping chess games, zany chess videos, a strict bully-free environment, silicone wristbands for tactics mastery, chess puzzlers for candy, driving music, hilarious tactics-lesson videos, Mardi-Gras bead chess tournaments each day we meet and National Online tournaments every weekend!
In this kid-centered classroom environment, we teach our kids every cool trick, strategy, opening, and tactic in chessdom and our kids soon learn to love and master chess and to masterfully control their classrooms, sports fields, and home lives as well! Laughter, fast clocks, and compelling teaching approaches make this class the week's highlight for the current 4500 Chess Party members who make up the awesome network of The Knight School's 300+ school chess teams.
Join The Knight School chess party and give your child the gift of amazing chess friends, undeniable academic confidence, self-identity as a smart kid, and a weekly dose of childhood joy that is the highlight of their week!
