Student-Led Conferences
What are they?
A student-led conference (SLC) is a meeting where your child takes the lead in guiding you through their learning progress. Instead of the teacher delivering all the information, your child is the primary presenter, sharing specific work, discussing their goals, and reflecting on their journey so far. The teacher acts as a facilitator.
Why are they important?
SLCs empower students by teaching them accountability and self-reflection. By preparing for and leading the conference, your child develops critical presentation skills, learns to take ownership of their education, and gains a deeper understanding of what they need to do to grow as a learner. It shifts the conversation from what the teacher says about them to what they know about themselves.
What can you expect?
During your scheduled time (typically 20 minutes), your child will share a portfolio of their work, explain their successes, identify areas where they faced challenges, and discuss goals they've set for the coming trimester. The focus is on your child's voice. Your role is to listen actively, ask supportive questions, and celebrate their hard work.
How can you prepare?
To make the most of this unique experience, we encourage you to:
Talk to your child beforehand about their work and ask them what they are most proud of.
Jot down a few open-ended, encouraging questions to ask them:
What was the most challenging project this trimester and how did you overcome it?
What's one thing you want to improve on?
What part of the school day makes you happy?
Be ready to be a supportive and engaged audience for your child's presentation.
Tripp School will have (2) spring conference dates:
Thursday, March 19 (1:00 pm - 8:00 pm)
Friday, March 20 (9:00 am - 12:00 pm)
Please ONLY sign up for (1) conference over the (2) days indicated above.
Our Spring student-led conferences apply to conferences scheduled with your child’s classroom teacher only. Our emergent bilingual teachers, case managers, specials teachers, MTSS teachers and related service providers prioritize meeting with parents/guardians at the classroom teacher conference time. However, if a parent/guardian feels the need to schedule a specific conference with one of these specialized staff members, then that specialized staff member will not join the meeting with the classroom teacher. These staff members also have a link if you wish to schedule a conference.
If you are unable to attend on the scheduled days and times, please email the classroom teacher at your earliest convenience. You may arrange a telephone conference on a day/time that works for both the teacher and the family.
Scheduling Information:
Please click the button below for directions and a list of our Tripp Staff and their conference scheduling links. Once your time has been scheduled, please be sure your confirmation email matches your calendar invitation. Please make sure your conference time is set for the Illinois Central Time Zone. The deadline to schedule a conference appointment is March 16.
IMPORTANT:
The google scheduling platform works best on a computer NOT a phone. Again, It is critical that your device be set to CST for an accurate scheduling
NO Left Turn Beginning Monday, February 23rd
Beginning Monday, February 23rd, parents who transport their child to and from school by car will no longer be able to turn left from Highland Grove Drive into the Tripp School parking lot for drop-off or pick-up. This adjustment is being made to enhance the safety of our students, families, and staff, and to improve the overall flow and efficiency of traffic during arrival and dismissal. Left turns at this location create traffic backups and increase the risk of unsafe situations, and this change will help create a safer and more orderly process for everyone.
We understand that changes to routines can take time, and we greatly appreciate your patience, flexibility, and cooperation as we implement this important safety measure. Our students’ safety is always our top priority, and we rely on our families to help by following traffic guidelines, obeying posted signs, and driving with extra care during these busy times.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for doing your part to help keep our Tripp community safe. Your support truly makes a difference.
