Decatur Community,
We have a lot going on this week, but I am going to keep it very brief and talk much more about things next week.
Was everyone able to get exactly what they needed over this past break? Whether that be relaxation, peace, time with loved ones, a break, fun and games, or a combination of some or all, I hope everyone had a positive break.
This week will see almost everything in action as we have a JH music concert, HS Scholars Bowl, JH basketball, wrestling, and HS basketball, many at home.
On Wednesday, we will have our Early Release as we prepare for our Active Shooter Drill. This will be a huge endeavor with ambulance, police sirens, helicopters, etc. I cannot emphasize enough, IT IS JUST A DRILL and it will be quite chaotic on Wednesday afternoon.
Active Shooter Drill This Week
On Wednesday, December 4th, we will have an Early Release day. During that afternoon, we will be having an active shooter training event that will involve all parties that would be engaged in a real situation.
During this event, there will be no students involved, unless they are a volunteer for the event. This event will involve local law enforcement, ambulance, and even helicopters, all emergency responders. We are getting the information out in as many ways as possible and as soon as possible so that everyone is aware that IT IS JUST A DRILL.
Please read the attached letter from Jeff Burmaster, Decatur County Emergency Management Director.
Early Release Days to Plan For
Throughout the month of Decemeber we will have several Early Release Days to plan for. Here are a few days to put on your radar for the week we come back.
12:00 - Wednesday, December 4th: This will be the day that we are planning on doing the Active Shooter Drill. Students should get out of the building as soon as possible after 12:00.
2:00 - Friday, December 6th: This is "Super Friday" as it started getting referred to last year. On Friday, we will host Atwood starting at 3:00. The JH teams will kick us off, followed by the HS, a HS season opener with a JH undercard to kick off the Breth era.
