WKES Cares

Mr. Bob got news that he will need to undergo radiation to complete his treatment. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Please continue to keep Mary and her spouse, Rita, in your thoughts and prayers.

Emily Crews' husband is recovering from surgery. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Maria Bolen was hit by a car this week while on a tractor mowing grass. She was thrown 20 feet. It is a blessing that she was not more hurt - just scrapes and bruises. Praises that this was not more serious!

Congratulations to all of our WKE family members who will be leaving us this year! We're sad to see you leave, however, we wish the best for you in your future endeavors! Much love to you ALL!!

Please let us know if there is anything we can do, or if emergencies come up during our time away from school.

For Your Information

1. Class Rosters

This process has been delayed. We hope to get the groupings to team leaders Monday, May 18th. We ask that you place the rest of the students in 5 classes. Our goal is to create balanced classes as much as possible. If possible, please share your groupings back with admin by May 26th.

2. Staff Contact List

It was suggested to share a list of staff addresses and phone numbers. This would allow us to check in with each other on a personal level. If you would like your information shared please access the list here. We will organize the list after it has been completed.

3. RTI News for 2020 - 2021

Next school year interventions will look different for all grade levels. The need will be great across every grade level so we will all work together to meet the needs of our striving readers. All grade levels will be served, but it will look different than it has in the past. In RTI, we will have a focus on early interventions to assist intervention numbers to be lower in upper grade levels in the future. Therefore, we will begin supporting Kindergarten earlier, providing interventions to first grade through various formats, pushing-in to 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms, and 4th and 5th grade interventions will be provided by the classroom teacher. The 4th and 5th grade classroom teachers will collaborate weekly with Katie to support their RTI students. Katie will provide intervention assistance/guidance and resources for 4th and 5th grade teachers to meet the needs of their striving readers. We are really looking forward to working alongside you next school year!

Hello friends! If you have students that you feel would benefit from participating in the Lexia online program, please let me know. They will need to have access to the internet. Thanks so much!

If you have an Instructional Assistant, please send me their evaluation no later than Friday, May 22, 2020. I will need to sign of on the and get them to HR. In regards to all Support Staff Evaluations, Remember:

  • Evaluate them in person if the employee is scheduled to be on campus (and if their health makes it advisable to do so)

  • Evaluate in person if the employee has two needs improvement ratings (and if their health makes it advisable to do so) after contacting HR to discuss improvement plan documentation

  • Follow the process support staff virtual/electronic evaluations for all other support staff employees- call if you have questions

  • If you wish, probationary evaluations can be conducted for employees where you feel there is enough information to evaluate short of the 90 workdays OR You can pause the probationary period from March closure to August return if let HR know who those employees are and have appropriate documentation of the circumstances.

5. Special Education Teachers

Will Special Education progress reports need to be sent home with report cards?

Yes. It is very important that these ENRICH documents be printed and mailed home along with the report cards. If anyone has any questions, Amy Derrick or Elizabeth Render can be contacted.

Special Education Team Leaders will need to ensure that the 4th Quarter IEP Progress Reports for their students - to include the services the Team Leader provides as well as any other services provided by other team members - are completed in ENRICH by Thursday, May 28th at 12:00 PM. The Team Leaders will then be responsible for going to the school, printing the appropriate progress reports for the 3rd and 4th nine weeks, folding them, and getting them in the report card jackets prior to the school mailing the report cards home on June 5th.

We will need to have these completed and submitted to Shelley Crossland by Wednesday, June 3 at 8:00 a.m. We will need to stuff envelopes and have them prepared to be mailed by close of business Thursday.

Timeclock Update:

Time clocks now allow for badge scanning and do not require fingerprint authentication to reduce contact.

End of Year Drive-Thru Celebration:

We have approved several drive-thru celebrations for the end of the year. It is imperative we follow the CDC guidelines regarding social distancing. Social Media is buzzing with people excited about the celebration; HOWEVER, they will post if we are not following safety protocols. Please review the following expectations:

*All staff members must wear masks and gloves

*All staff members are separated by 6 ft

*You may extend your arms to give envelopes with awards, etc. You MAY NOT be close enough to the car to take a selfie.

*All stops less than a few seconds - Enough time to hand the student or the parent the certificate, etc. No opportunity for pictures with students.

Let's keep everyone safe and show families we are keeping ourselves as well as their families safe.

Counselor's Corner

Dear Teachers, We hope you are all taking the time to have some self-care during this whirlwind of adjusting to virtual learning and dealing with all of the happenings in our world today. The ANDS could go on and on. Please know that we are here for you to help. If you have a child you are concerned about please let your School Counselor know! Also, please don't forget to let us know about your zooms or class meetings. We would love to be a part of them. We have seen most of our classes which is so exciting to be able to see our kiddos faces. Stay happy, healthy, and safe! WKES School Counselors
