NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
As we continue our journey through this academic year, I'd like to take a moment to focus on a vital aspect of our children's development: resilience. In todays' rapidly changing world, the ability to adapt, recover, and thrive despite challenges is more important than ever.
Parenting expert Maggie Dent often emphasises the importance of building emotional and psychological resilience in children. She states, "Resilience is not just about 'bouncing back' from adversity, but also 'bouncing forward' - growing stronger and wiser from the challenges faced." This perspective reminds us that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and learning.
Similarly, Dr. Justin Coulson highlights the role of supportive relationships in fostering resilience. He explains, "The single most important factor in developing resilience in children is the presence of at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive adult." Whether it's a parent, teacher, or another caring adult, these connections provide the foundation for our children to navigate life's ups and downs.
At OLGC, we strive to create a nurturing environment where every child feels supported and valued. Through our programs and daily interactions, we encourage students to fcae challenges with courage and confidence. However, the role of parents and guardians in this journey cannot be overstated. Your encouragement and understanding are key to helping your children build the resilience they need to succeed.
Let's work together to foster a community that empowers our children to embrace challenges and grow stronger every day.
Assistant Principal
Please note that Mrs Rebecca Barfoot will be on long service leave from 12 June until Week 3 of Term 3. In her absence, Mrs Maddie Ciullo will be acting in the role of Assistant Principal. Should you need support from the Assistant Principal during this time, please contact maddie.ciullo@cewa.edu.au or contact admin to book a time to meet with Mrs Ciullo.
Many thanks,
Lisa McClue
Enrolments – Pre-Kindy and Kindy Program: 2025 and 2026
Please note that we have now reached full capacity for Kindy and Pre-Kindy 2025 and have commenced a waitlist for students. Places are also very limited for Kindy 2026.
If you have a younger sibling, friend or family member who will be seeking enrolment in our Pre-Kindy or Kindy program for 2025 or 2026 please contact the administration staff as soon as possible. These places are filling up very fast (with a waitlist already in place for Pre-Kindy and Kindy 2025) and we would hate for any siblings to miss out on enrolling.
Friends or family members that would like to see what OLGC can offer their child, should submit an EOI via our new website www.olgc.wa.edu.au or by contacting the office on 6242 3400 for an application, or to book a school tour.
NEWS FROM MRS BARFOOT
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION RETREAT
As a school community, let us keep the Year 4 students in our thoughts and prayers as they embark on their First Holy Communion retreat.
It is a significant milestone in the spiritual journey of our students and with hearts open and spirits lifted, we extend our warmest wishes to these young candidates as they prepare to receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PARENT/CHILD WORKSHOP
A reminder that all children enrolled to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion are required to attend next week’s workshop with a parent/caregiver.
The workshop will be held in the Hall next Wednesday, June 12 at 5.30pm.
THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS
This Catholic devotion (celebrated this year on June 7) honours the Sacred Heart of Our Lord, through which was manifested to us God’s eternal love for everyone. “God is Love” (1 John 4:8), and so in honouring the human expression of that Love, especially on the Cross, we honour Its Divine Source. The Sacred Heart is the actual heart of Christ and also indicates His love for humanity.
St. John Paul II said, “This feast reminds us of the mystery of the love of God for the people of all times. The Sacred Heart has everything – redemption, salvation, sanctification.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “The prayer of the Church venerates and honours the Heart of Jesus just as it invokes his most holy name. It adores the incarnate Word and his Heart which, out of love for men, he allowed to be pierced by our sins.” (CCC2669)
