Thursday 10.29 = Wear bright fun & comfortable clothing for the Glow Run! Don't forget to bring shoes you can run in!
Greeting Richardson Families,
Last week, our Penguins celebrated Unity Day with lots of orange and activities focused on kindness, inclusion, and belonging. Many classrooms celebrated together or with their buddies. Be sure to check out the photos above and below, including the buddy activity with Mrs. Pederson’s kindergarteners and Ms. Brady’s third graders!
Students also completed their school climate surveys, giving them an opportunity to share how they experience school. Their voices help us understand what is going well and where we can continue strengthening our school community.
We also welcomed district leaders and staff from John Glenn Middle School to observe our immersion classrooms as planning begins for our immersion students’ transition to middle school. Next year, we will add fifth grade—the final elementary grade—to our immersion program, before our first group moves on to middle school the following year. It is exciting to see this program grow and to begin building connections that will support our students along the way!
Our Glow Run fundraiser officially kicked off last week, and students and staff are excited for Thursday’s Glow Run! Please see below for fundraiser information and updates on our progress toward reaching our goal. Thank you for helping support field trips, fun events, and other opportunities for our Penguins!
Halloween Reminder
District 622 does not schedule or encourage any specific practices for Halloween during school hours. For a variety of reasons, we ask that Halloween celebrations occur outside of school hours. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Richardson Veterans Day Slideshow & Gift Bags
As November approaches, we are preparing to recognize the Veterans who are important to our Richardson families. We are collecting photos of Veterans in our Richardson family for our Veterans Day slideshow. Please email photos to Amber Hinz at ahinz@isd622.org by November 6. If you submitted photos last year, we still have them—there is no need to resend!
Families may also [complete this form] by November 6 to request a gift bag for a Veteran in their family or neighborhood. Students will receive the gift bags on Veterans Day so they can deliver them after school to a Veteran who is important to them.
As always, please feel free to reach out to the main office, Miss Susi, or me anytime with questions, concerns, or suggestions. My contact information is mhoude@isd622.org or 651-748-6910.
Together,

Weekly Attendance Tip: Make a Plan for Full Days of Learning
Small steps can help your child start strong and finish strong!
Could your family use a school-day reset?
Try this: Make a simple plan together for arriving on time, staying the full day, and being ready to learn. Choose two steps—like setting out clothes the night before, keeping a consistent bedtime, or scheduling appointments outside school hours when possible. Ask your child what helps them stay focused and participate through the last learning activity.
Why it helps: Being at school for the full day gives your child more time to learn, practice new skills, and connect with classmates. Planning together helps them understand that their participation matters—from the first lesson to the last.
Need support? Your child’s teacher or our school social worker can help you create a plan that works for your family.

Family Science Ideas: Animals
This month, we’re exploring animals! For another way to experience science together, take your learning beyond home and see animals and their habitats up close.
WEEK 4 — 🦉 Go & Explore
The Twin Cities has some great places for families to explore animal science:
🦍 Como Park Zoo & Conservatory — Choose an animal and watch it for a few minutes. What do you notice about how it moves, eats, rests, or interacts with other animals?
🐻 Minnesota Zoo — Compare animals from different habitats. What features help each animal live where it does?
🦅 Tamarack Nature Center — Explore the trails in White Bear Township and look for signs of Minnesota wildlife. What animals might be sharing this habitat with you?
While you explore, ask:
What does this animal need to survive, and how does its body or behavior help it get what it needs?
Can't make a special trip? Take a walk around your neighborhood or visit a local park. Pick one animal you see and spend a few minutes watching what it does. There are animals to investigate almost everywhere!
