Summer is a Time to Refresh and Prepare
School is closed for the summer and everyone goes home to relax and refresh. Much of this true for our nine, ten, and twelve month employees. Staff uses this time to recharge the battery for the coming excitement of a new school year in August. In reality many of the staff use the summer to prepare for next year.
The months of June and July are quite busy especially for our maintenance and custodial crews. These two months they are waxing, painting, fixing and maintaining our buildings focusing on all the items we can only do when students are on summer break. There are eleven school sites that need attention and this is a considerable task to complete in a couple of months. We appreciate their dedication to our students and the tasks that often go unseen.
Administration is busy hiring staff for next year, while working on finalizing schedules to make next year run even better. Teachers are working on curriculum or professional development in order to grow and support student success while recharging their battery, too. The logistics, communications, technology, supplies and the preparation for each fall takes a team of counselors, secretaries, principals and the central office to pull all of this together. Many people are working to make the start of next year look easy.
We will continue working behind the scenes making sure everything is ready to go. I hope your summer is one of fun and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the fall.

Free Sports Physicals
Monument Health is offering sports physical examinations free of charge to school-age athletes at all Monument Health clinic locations.
Patients seen at Monument Health Sturgis clinic are required to make an appointment with a primary care provider which can be a doctor, a nurse practitioner, or a physician assistant. These physicals are not done in urgent care at this location to prevent long wait times. Call 605-720-2600.
The free physical examinations are offered year-round as a courtesy to all local athletes, from grade school to college. Families are invited to schedule an appointment at a local clinic.
Athletic physical forms and the pre-participation history forms (with parental signature) must be completed prior to the athletic physical being performed.
