The Tawanka Times is a bi-weekly newsletter, but we have so many wonderful things going on that we couldn't wait to share! Enjoy this special edition!

Emergency Drills

Once a month, the students practice a fire drill and a lockdown drill so they know what to do in case of an emergency. The students did such a great job with the fire drill! They were quiet and orderly, exactly what we expect from our Tawanka Eagles! Thank you to Mrs. Neff for the photos!

Mrs. McCreary

I'm so excited to be joining the Tawanka family! I spent the last 18 years teaching English, Reading, and Drama at Neshaminy high school. When I'm not at school, I love to read (Pete the Cat and Harry Potter are some of my favorites). I also love spending time hiking with my family or attending sporting events. I have really loved getting to know the students and families of Tawanka over the past several weeks! I can't wait to see all of the wonderful ways that we can learn and grow together this year.

Kindergarten Kindergarten

Don't forget!

Who loves learning? We do!!!!
Kindergarten is falling in love with learning!

Mrs. Neff's Class

The girls and boys in Mrs. Neff's kindergarten class want to share a big thank our local community Giant store for the delicious pink watermelon! They each signed this watermelon shaped thank you note!

Ghost sighting!

Can you guess? Ghosts, I mean students, in Miss Trotta's class wrote clues. We then had to guess which student was hiding behind each ghost! Parents can try and find their little ghost too if attending Parent University!

Superkids Day Celebration

When the students finished the review of Kindergarten Superkids, we celebrated by dressing up as our favorite Superkid. We paraded through the second grade pod to display our costumes. Then each of the first grade classes spent 30 minutes doing the things that the Superkids enjoy. Those activities included building, coloring, doing puzzles, playing with fast cars, and cooking up creations with playdoh. It was a blast!

Writing Partner Fun!

This week, children in first grade learned how to work with a writing partner to decide on a topic for writing. They practice taking turns, listening carefully, asking questions and helping each other. They are planning to write a story about something they have done. We are looking forward to reading their stories when they finish!

Mrs. Tryon's Class

Mrs. Tryon’s class took some time this week to get into the Autumn spirit! Students wrote free-verse poems about fall leaves. They also wrote silly spooky skeleton couplets and created some skeletons out of q-tips to go along with their poems.

The dot project turned into a colorful billboard display in our main hallway. Everyone did a wonderful job!

Our AE teacher Mrs. Phelan has created an optional weekly Math Challenge for students. She is excited to announce that for Week #1, there were 42 students in grades K-4 that participated! The classes with the highest participation were: Ms. Atwater's class with 14 students, Ms. Wells' class with 7 students, and Ms. Wendling's class with 6 students. Great job, everyone!
