Parsons Pirates Update
June 10th, 2024
Message from the Principal
This is the last Parsons update of the school year so that means we officially made it! Congratulations to our 5th grade graduates. You have made a deep impression on all of us and we wish you nothing but the best as you head to middle school.
My baby graduates this week too so the class of 2024 has a very special piece of my heart. As the saying goes, "The days are long but the years are short."
Parents enjoy this time with your children but let them fly too. Let them climb the big tree. Bike around the neighborhood. Make a new recipe. Try a new activity. Say yes. Say no. Foster independence so they are prepared to one day leave the nest, knowing that you will always be there for them when they return. Our kids are more than a report card or a hockey trophy or one bad day. They are every good thing. Thank you for being partners with us. It truly is an honor. Happy Summer and we will see you soon!
5th Grade Clap Out and Graduation
Fifth grade graduation is this Thursday, June 13th. Parents are welcome to come in and line the hallways at 1:45. We will start the clap out and clap the students right outside to the blacktop. Graduation will take place outside, as long as the weather cooperates. There will be plenty of seats so families are welcome to bring additional family members. The teachers will give speeches and present certificates. Then we will get a picture on the playground.
Field Day is June 10th!
Field Day is here!
The fire department is lined up and pizza and salad will be provided for the volunteers. We have ordered some new supplies that Mr Grima has asked for, and school hot dog lunch will be provided for students. Fingers crossed for good weather!
Students were cold after the Water Parties today. Students may want to pack some layers in case they get cold outside. If they plan to get soaked during the fire trucks spraying activity at the end of the day, they should bring a towel and possibly a change of clothes.
Please put sunscreen on prior to school starting if students can't apply it themselves. Teachers are not allowed to apply sunscreen. Hats are allowed on Field Day. Please wear closed toe shoes, preferably running shoes, as flip flops and crocs are not ideal.
Summer Technology
Please check out the message from the district regarding technology over the summer.
This message is being sent to communicate an important change related to student technology devices for this coming summer. This year, most of our students will take their devices home during summer vacation.
Please note this change applies only to students in grades 3 through 11. If the device is an iPad/touchscreen Chromebook, e.g. (K-2 devices), those will stay behind in their classroom for our IT team to attend to this summer.
Eighth-grade students will take their devices home over the summer and should bring these back to be exchanged for their high school Chromebooks on prep day on August 22nd. Students must return everything in working order before they get their new device.
Detailed information regarding device care, responsible use, and expectations can be found in this document: Summer Chromebook Care for GSD Students. As a reminder, the GSD Acceptable Use Policy and Technology Agreement are in effect on all student devices. Should students choose to use the district-owned Chromebook, they are expected to exercise proper care and use it as if the device is being used at school.

All visitors/volunteers in the building must report and sign in at the office. Visitors must wear a badge in the school building. All volunteers in the classroom and for field trips must have a background check on file each year.
