The Glazier Way: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready!

We are excited to be a PBIS School: This confirms our commitment to creating Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We have banners for classrooms and around the campus to teach into "The 3 Rs" of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready! Our entire team will be sharing the classroom expectations while we reinforce school-wide behaviors during our "Rotations Stations" and Monday Morning huddles, as well as through Glazier TV. Thank you for supporting this work as we come back together and strive for classroom connections where every student is respectful, responsible, and ready to learn!

We will be sending home hard copies of our Student/Family Handbook. Please get a preview of it here: here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16okKbbDIcOjFpYOGXod1KrHyg_i2Wbe0sPOirASLoO4/edit?usp=sharing

Emergency Bags: Let's get prepared

Every year we encourage families to have a gallon-size bag with basic items to take each student through an emergency situation. A hard copy will be shared in the opening days of school and can be reviewed here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fXK8YvXOoDM9PZhDLwNHoJ0LA7LO6bO4IybPlnLB2oc/edit?usp=sharing

Supply lists

Families often ask about a recommended supply list to assist with homework: Each classroom is equipped with general supplies through our Title 1 funding. You can check with your child's teacher for more information in the opening days of school. Thank you.

Safety is our priority, especially at drop off and pick up

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION BEGINS AT 8:00a.m. Please make every effort to be in line and "Strive for 7:55"

We have a "drive-thru" drop-off and pick-up system. Please stay in your vehicle so the flow of traffic can continue. We appreciate your support. All traffic laws are enforced by Public Safety, School Safety, and the Norwalk Sheriffs Department--please keep Red Zones/Bus Zones/Handicapped parking clear. Thank you.

Traveling to Campus by Car

  • Please use the main entry inlet at the front of the school, having your student(s) exit at the curb. TK/K enters their gate OR comes through the main gate for breakfast--gate opens at 7:30am.
  • Lefloss Ave gate is another option: Please observe our Bus Zone and safety guidelines for crosswalks. Students are not to run across from the school side to a waiting car.
  • Please leave the green zone near the TK/K yeard for our TK/K drop off and pick-up area.
  • If you need to park, please use the staff parking lot or Lefloss--the front of the school is drop-off only--please stay in your vehicle to help with the flow of traffice.
Pick Up (2:17 except Wednesday/Minimum Days and TK/K 11:30am the first 2 weeks of school
  • TK/K dismiss from the TK/K yard--please establish a familiar spot along the fence line on the grass area. 1st grade dismisses from the large green grass area near the MPR at the front gate. 2nd grade dismisses from the flag pole grass area. 3rd-5th grade will reunite based on parent description of pick-up areas--usually the large grass area in front of the MPR. Please keep the gate areas clear to give students room to walk out and reunite with you.

Traveling to Campus by Bus

  • The BUS ONLY loading zone is on Lefloss Avenue near Excelsior Drive
  • When students arrive, a staff member will greet them as they exit the bus and walk onto campus.
  • 2:17p.m. Pick Up - At the end of the day, K-2 students will meet a staff member to be escorted to the bus area. Third-5th grade students will exit class and be supervised as they walk to the bus line at the Lefloss gate.

Walking to Campus or Riding a bike or scooter

  • Students will walk their bike or scooter and helmet through the main gate toward the blue gate in the parking lot.

Late Arrivals

Students arriving after 7:55am at the TK/K or after 8:00a.m. will come to the office and ring the bell for assistance. We kindly ask that you work diligently to be on time: Every minute of instruction matters!

Ramona Preschool Class: Ms. Darian and Ms. Rosa

  • Drop Off (8:30am) and Pick-Up (3:00pm): Please arrive at the Lefloss Avenue preschool gate--this is south of the Lefloss bus zone gate. Exit the car, walk your student to the gate next to Room 101. Please wait for a staff member to greet you and your student(s) to enter campus.

As a reminder, Glazier is a closed campus, as with other sites across NLMUSD. If you have necessary school business, please contact your child's teacher or the school office to set up an appointment outside of instructional hours. We look forward to inviting volunteers onto campus through our district screening process: If you are interested, please talk with your child's teacher or contact the office.

Everyone's cooperation will help us establish and maintain a safe, positive environment. Thank you very much!

Nutrition Services: Pack from home or enjoy our options

All students have the option to eat breakfast and lunch at no charge/free of cost. Meal applications are not required. Glazier is very proud to implement the "Second Chance" breakfast option: If students are not hungry or on time to eat breakfast 7:30-7:50, they have the option to eat breakfast items at their recess time. Please note that Second Chance Breakfast is not available on Wednesday/Minimum Day schedules.

As part of our Green School Zero Waste initiative, we encourage students to place any wrapped and unused food item on the Share Table in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR). Share Table items are available to any student who might want a little more food, while also keeping it from going to waste. Please know that our goal is for each child to eat their servings of food, and the Share Table is purely an option focused on limiting waste while also helping others.

Some students have allergies to various foods: Our Nutrition Services team can assist as needed. Please send a note or email so that we can support you and your child. More information and menus are available here: https://yourchew.com/?page=main

Families are welcome to pack snacks and lunches from home. We ask that sodas, caffeinated drinks, large chip bags, and gum remain off-campus so we can support the healthy eating outlined by the USDA and Academy of Pediatrics. We do not allow students to share food for a variety of respectful reasons: If you have any questions, please reach out.

Schoolwide expectations: Daily reading matters!

Every student is expected to read every evening for at least 20 minutes, although 30 minutes is highly recommended to accelerate learning. We encourage families to make this a nightly routine. Our school library works to rotate clean materials before redistribution: Thank you for guiding your child on handling the book with clean hands, away from food, and in ways that will protect the book from damage. LA County Public Library is a great option for hard copy books, digital books, and other resources. Our district-approved literacy apps also extend "just right" reading options for students: Our teaching team will share more information in the opening days of school.

Homework folder system

Glazier PTA helps provide a durable folder TK-2 that can be used throughout the school year. Other folders are used in grades 3-5: Please look in your child's backpack, review the contents, and keep/return items as appropriate. Homework/School work as well as flyers from our school, district, and community partners will be sent home on a weekly basis. Thank you!
