SPECIAL REMINDERS FOR NEXT WEEK: There is no school on Monday, October 12th in observance of Columbus Day. Picture Retake Day is Tuesday, October 13th.

CELEBRATING A BIRTHDAY? Our students love it when family members bring in treats for them to share with their friends on special occasions, like birthdays. Please keep in mind that ALL treats brought in to share must be on our Emmons Safe Snack List. Snacks will not be allowed into the classroom if they are not on the list. Please be sure to check this list first before purchasing classroom snacks to share. This applies to Holiday parties as well.

PRE-K SCREENING - November 10th at Grass Lake School. See flyer in the newsletter for QR code to register.

EARLY DISMISSAL REMINDER - Please notify the office in the morning if your student is leaving early. You can notify us via attendance@emmons33.org, the Absence Request Processor in Infinite Campus, the attendance voicemail or call the office at 847-395-1105. Students will be called down to the office once the parent signs them out.

HALLOWEEN - The parade will be Friday, October 30th at 1:45. The parade will be outside, weather permitting. K-5 Halloween/Fall Parties are on October 30th from 2:00-3:00. Party volunteers must notify teachers ahead of time.

Visit Parent University to learn more about our Student Information System, Infinite Campus.

DISTRICT 117 MATH FAIR: It is that time of year when Community High School District 117 will be hosting its Annual Math Fair! This event is where high school students create carnival games with math questions to encourage our elementary students to be interested in and enjoy doing math! Your students will win prize money, and every student will walk away with one prize (and hopefully a love of math!). This event will be held in the McKay Center (Lakes Field House) on October 21st from 6-8 pm.

FOCUS FEATURE - FIRST GRADE FOCUS FEATURE - FIRST GRADE

Mrs. Glassman & Mrs. White

First grade has been busy learning and growing! We recently wrapped up our first ELA unit, Everything Living Grows and Changes, where students explored life cycles and how living things grow and change over time. We saw this learning come to life as we learned how an apple grows from a tiny seed into a tree that produces fruit. To celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day, we used those apples to make our very own applesauce—a fun and delicious way to wrap up our first unit!

FALL SPORTS: RAIDERS IN ACTION FALL SPORTS: RAIDERS IN ACTION

Fall has been a busy time at Emmons, with multiple athletic seasons underway. We had our coed soccer team, coed cross country team, and three levels of girls volleyball. Our 7th grade girls volleyball team is still in the middle of tournament play, while our cross country team heads to sectionals on Saturday in Mount Prospect. Our soccer team, 5th/6th grade girls volleyball team, and 8th grade volleyball team wrapped up their seasons earlier this week. Read below for some highlights!

Soccer - This year, Emmons fielded a young team that learned so much throughout the season. Though our roster was primarily made up of 5th grade players, with a sprinkling of 6th and 7th graders, we matched up against older opponents and held our own. The player development throughout the season was outstanding, and we can’t wait to see what these players accomplish next season!

5th/6th Volleyball - Our 5th and 6th grade girls had an awesome season. The girls learned not only how to develop their skills on the court, but also how to work together as a team. Both our A and B teams saw success in their matches while continuing to grow their knowledge of the game. The team capped off its season with a 1st place finish in the Grass Lake Championship Clash tournament! We are so proud of these young ladies!

Cross Country - Our cross country team has had a season full of personal bests. They have been training hard and working on their technique throughout the season. They completed their conference race this past Tuesday, and all of our runners came out strong. A big congratulations to Austin on his conference championship and to Vada for earning All-Conference honors. Good luck to our team as they compete at sectionals on Saturday!

7th & 8th Grade Volleyball - Both our 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams had great seasons! Our 8th grade team developed so many skills this year and really started to master playing the ball on our side of the court with the bump, set, and hit. They ended their season Wednesday night with a close game against Grass Lake, but they have so much to be proud of. Our 7th grade team has developed a great deal as well, with the girls really working together on the court and everyone contributing. They are still in the middle of tournament play, and we wish them good luck in Round 2!

A huge thank you goes out to our fall coaches for their time and dedication. Thank you to Darren Llewellyn (soccer), Tyler Glassman (cross country), Jen Cybul (5th/6th volleyball), Judy Derra (7th & 8th grade volleyball), and Alison Rosenberg (7th & 8th grade volleyball). We couldn’t have done it without you!
