Dear Bedford Public Schools Community,

Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing the JGMS Little Mermaid Jr. Musical, which featured a record-breaking cast and crew of 122 students (some pictured below, photo credit: Lauren Hart). I continue to marvel at how our commitment to inclusivity (every student who wanted to participate was able to) makes us stronger and better---the show was amazing, especially when the full cast was on stage. You have a few more chances to catch the performances this weekend.

In addition, I am pleased to report that with the strong leadership of our educators and support from the community, we continue to clear hurdles (Photo Credit: Bedford_Bucs_Yearbook from a track meet last year) as we work toward our strategic objectives. See here (and below) for additional information about our plan to achieve Strategic Objective 1.2 to broaden access to advanced math content for our middle schoolers. And see Bedford Healthy School Hours Communication Plan (and below) for next steps to solicit additional stakeholder feedback for Strategic Objective 2.1 regarding student wellbeing and healthy school hours.

Thanks,

Cliff Chuang (he/him) 莊 宏 毅

Superintendent, Bedford Public Schools

Throughout this school year, in alignment with Strategic Objective 2.1 regarding student wellbeing, the School Committee has considered whether a change in school hours is in the best interest of students. This Bedford Healthy School Hours Communication Plan outlines multiple opportunities for stakeholders to learn more about the research on healthy school hours and to provide feedback. In particular, please note that 5th - 12th graders will have this opportunity during school, and that there are family & community Forums planned for April 29th (in-person), April 30th (virtual with a focus on Boston families), and May 1st (virtual). All stakeholders will be able to take a survey beginning on May 5th. More details will be shared in the coming weeks.

Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month

open_in_new zoom_out_map
April is Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the unique strengths and abilities of individuals with autism while promoting understanding and inclusion. Autism is a natural variation in how people think, learn, and experience the world. Autistic individuals may communicate in different ways, approach problem-solving creatively, and have deep passions for specific interests. By increasing awareness and fostering acceptance, we can create environments where autistic individuals feel valued and supported. During Autism Acceptance and Awareness Month, let’s focus on not just awareness, but acceptance—building an inclusive community where every individual has the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect.
