February 2026
OCSU
A brief note as we go into February from Superintendent Jackie
As we reach February, we step into a month of reflection, appreciation, and renewed energy. With the days getting longer and the mid-year mark past us, our work matters more than ever. I know you are all working hard to close learning gaps, sustain engagement, and keep momentum going for every learner in OCSU. Thank you all for all that you do!
This month also gives us the chance to celebrate some of the people who make our schools thrive: School Board Appreciation Month reminds us of the essential role our board members play in supporting strong schools. Feb. 2–6 is School Counselor Appreciation Week, Feb. 15 is School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and Feb. 22 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day.
Some of my highlights in January included insightful conversations with kindergarten students, talking with and learning more about the ELA work our 7th and 8th graders are engaged in, and, at a recent breakfast with Lake Region students, learning more about programs at the tech center and the day-to-day happenings at LR. Additionally, some of our OCSU teachers and students joined me for the Celebration of Rural Schools Day at the State House and showcased just some of the amazing work happening in our schools! Please see the photos below.
As we focus our collective efforts on our students' well-being, growth, and learning, it is essential that we also continue to care for one another. Checking in, offering support, and celebrating small wins sustains and creates an even stronger, more connected school community.
Here’s to a February filled with progress, gratitude, celebration, and ongoing teamwork that makes a difference for every student. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me at anytime. Thank you again, OCSU!
